PBJnr2 is about to start driving but as she was born missing her lower left arm, will find a regular handbrake too hard day-to-day.

I’m looking for a small’ish car - think Focus/Mazda3 or thereabouts - and need to know how old my options might be.

I know a Mazda3 has an e-brake from 2018 and a Corolla from about 2020, so these fall a little out of my budget.

Would prefer not to have anything from VAG/Renault/Peugeot/FIAT - cost of parts and insurance for many Euro cars is expensive here. Japanese or Korean pref.

Budget would probably confuse as the market here is different to the UK - I just need suggestions to get my search going, thanks.

Newer model Jazz (post 2020?) has an electric handbrake. Sadly most British teens would rather walk than drive what's seen here as a pensioners car, which is a shame as they're a great car with a much better image in many other countries.

Yaris from 2020 on has one. I assume she will get an auto, and the hybrids are all autos.

I have a Renault Clio and that has an electronic handbrake ( a 2022 car ).

It works in two waya: it applies it when you turn the engine off, and when you start the car, as you move, it will release. And then when driving, if you come to a stop, dab the brake pedal and it applies a holding brake.

Im sure this is how anything moden works now, but when I bought the car last year, it was all new to me!

Thanks for the pointers - looked at a Jazz for PBJnr3 a couple of years ago too - liked it!

Have also found that the Focus from about 2018 onwards has an e-brake and the gear selector is a twisty thing rather than a stick which might work better
