Guys, I need some help deciding please. A 2015-2017 Porsche Macan (the 3 litre petrol), purchased from a independent garage.

Or a 2017 BMW M2 F87 LCI from a BMW dealership.

Odd choice I know but which would be considered the more special. The more driver focused? The more for the enthusiast?

The Porsche would be helpful for euro road trips (3-4 adults). But to me, the M2 feels more special. But cannot be used for euro road trips due to lack of space. Plus the Porsche is an amazing brand.

I also have the option of relatively worry free motoring with the M2 having the AUC warranty.

Please help. Thank you.

This is a trick question, right?

So an SUV albeit a Porsche engineered one vs a small rear wheel drive M division car.

The more regular comparison would be Macan vs X3 or M2 vs Cayman.

Given they are quite different, I'd try and find a couple of examples to test drive. A Macan GTS may be more than enough for you in terms of dynamics/performance, and is obviously a more practical car.

The M2 is great but I wouldn't say it's infinitely more special feeling than a decent Macan GTS would be.

The gen1 M2 actually has a decent amount of rear headroom for adults & when it comes to a drivers choice then the M2 wins, if I wanted a Porsche that can take four adults & that drives really well I'd be looking at one of these:

Can’t comment on the M2.

The Macan is more of a big hatchback than an SUV.
It is very spec dependent though (as more Porsches).
The rear seats are tight (specially you are planning for a Euro trip).
So I would suggest try them first.

As above, consider the GTS or a Turbo (a Turbo Performance is the best of both worlds but very few for sale).

I have a Macan GTS as my daily car. I really like it, it handles really well for a heavy SUV and it isn't too big. It doesn't feel like an SUV. It is practical and has sufficient rear space and the boot is well proportioned. My only criticisms are it could do with maybe 25 - 40 more hp and it gets terrible mpg (I get about 25 not driving fast). I'd definitely get a sunroof as it would be quite dark inside without.

I think the 3.0 in the 2015 - 2017 Macan is less reliable than the Audi 2.9V6TT which is in the more recent Macans.

I have not driven an M2 but I would expect an M2 to be better to drive and faster. But a lot less practical.

I had very specific requirements for my car, mostly around non-hybrid drivetrains and as little screens as possible. This left few options and I took an SUV when I wanted a car. The Macan is good though and feels like a car.

I think the suggestion of a Panamera is a good one but this only has 4 seats (unless you get a sport turismo with a 5th seat). They are also really very long at over 16.5 feet. If you can live with the size and the 4 seats I'd expect this to be better than a Macan.

Otherwise, you could look at a B9 RS4 (which has the 2.9V6 TT that is in the Macan but at a higher state of tune) or maybe the F80 M3 if you want a car but bigger than the M2.
