I want something that’s a clear step up in performance, tech, and AWD capability.
I drive mostly B‑roads and motorway miles in Scotland, so wet‑weather grip matters a lot.

The RS4 appeals because of the power, quattro, and the “special” factor.
The M340i appeals because of the B58 reliability, better tech, and lower running costs.

Anyone owned either? What’s the better real‑world upgrade from a Golf R?

Thanks.

All 3 will be very similar on the road. Which interior/ looks do you prefer?

A well tuned Golf R is a far better vehicle than either of the other two cars you mention from a number of perspectives. Real problems start when you try to find an alternative to a well tuned R though...

I would agree with that, maybe a reputable remap in the golf would really wake it up, not for everyone I know but once you experience the difference you won't look back to be honest.
Ignore me if you just fancy a change.
