Family member just passed his test, looking for his first car.
Two major caveats, first one is he's a big lad. As in he's your traditional brick outhouse of a lad, 6ft5 and 17st, his legs are like granite from gym and just being fecking huge, so a small hatchback for insurance purposes won't cut it.
Second caveat obviously will be insurance and likely to need black box or something sensible he'll get insured on.
Budget is £5k tops, he's got cash saved and is buying it outright he hopes, he's just started an advanced apprenticeship so will be driving to/from work and college etc.
Any suggestions from similarly sized persons ! gratefully received!

Yep,that’s what I did for my 6’3 well built son in 2019 as his first car and he’s still got it.

I’m not that big, but would suggest the following:
Ford C-Max
Ford Mondeo
Volvo V70 or even an S80.
Low insurance groups for certain models of all those.
