Interestingly I have found out that the company car scheme has had a minor change, no longer are we going for a specific model and buying new the powers to be have decided that we can look and pick a car and pass on to the fleet team to process...

And were allowed the to follow the following criteria...

6 months old

5k miles max

30-33k max....

Plug in Hybrid or electric

And suddenly a whole lot of options are on the table, or rather in the car lot....


Ive been against company cars thinking they cost money and they are not yours etc.... but actually working out the price and the depreciation with maintenance insurance and all that it actually does work out cheaper, or rather not losing anything in the terms of running costs and such.

So here I am... looking for a car....

criterial I have to cover from the central belt of scotland through to the south of england. motorway work aswell as running about locally.... A plug in I could cover most of my journeys on battery... and the longer ones...

Or Tesla but I see no Tesla in that price range age and milage to cost being a bit out of the league of selection.

Quite like a few that has come up though.... some decent metal at that price point.

As an example, Edinburgh to Oxford 375miles. Other towns are available.

If ever there was a use case for a plug-in hybrid, this is it.

Of the EVs I think the Polestar 2 LRSM stands out to me, great seats, plenty of kit, decent range; the VW ID.7 Pro S with the big battery also seems worth trying. Of course, you'd need a charging stop to reach the South from Edinburgh.

On the plug-in hybrids, it's mostly either VW Group or Chinese brands. On the former, the A6 comes with a 2.0 engine and 26 kWh battery which seems like it could be a good mile-muncher. Another option could be the Prius plug-in, could be quite economical.

How long will you be running it for? There is a big jump in Hybrid BIK coming from 28/29 tax year on... the lowest emission hybrids will jump from 5% to 18% at that point. Might be worth considering:
