Test drove an i4 e40 on the weekend really enjoyed the drive and power and looks even if standard Msport trim is a bit rubbish.. packs for this packs for that which are obviously extra.. i had my heart set on one but the problem was the backseats, which were a little cramped for our son
Any alternatives similar to an i4 to consider needs to be Ev as we do a load of miles

If buying new, BYD Seal (3.8s if you really want some fun. Polestar 4 - good car let down by the the lack of a rear screen.

Tesla Model 3 must be an obvious one, it's spacious and the Tesla network is great especially if you are doing lots of miles, not sure if you are looking at new or used but the current 'Highland' model is very good and the AWD Long Range covers all the bases.

Neither of which is a saloon type shape.

That's not very helpful. The OP didn't specify a saloon type shape. Merely they liked the look of the i4, which is a hatch. ZXRNin is suggesting alternatives.

Ioniq 5 and the Genesis GV60 along with the EV6 worth a look? They afford very fast charging speeds.

There is an issue with a component called the ICCU with these. Hyundai/Kia I believe have extended the warranty for this component to 15yrs. Unsure what percent of cars are affected or if a proper bombproof fix has been implemented.

Model 3 Highland is probably the default answer. Appreciate not everyone likes Teslas.

My sister has just got a 2024 Ford Explorer and is very happy with it (previously a Model 3 owner, but now Musk prevents....)

Nor is the i4. it's a hatchback in the same way an Insignia is.
