I'm looking to buy a 3rd car which started life in Jersey (2010) and was imported to England in 2021. It has gone through a couple of owners since arriving. I noticed the MOT history doesn't appear since before 2021 (understandable), and the reg doesn't appear in places such as WBAC and other databases.

Would any of this concern you? Is it worth less and would I struggle to sell on? Would I have to declare as in import when insuring it? I was hoping it is all a non issue.

FWIW it is a 40k mile Porsche in what appears to be very good condition.

Thanks!

Is it currently UK registered or is it still on Jersey plates?

It is a UK registered car being sold by a UK independent dealer.

Very much this! Although being an import wouldn't concern me, it will put buyers off (especially Porsche ones!)

I am not sure about Jersey, but I do know that in Guernsey cars don’t have MOT’s over there which can put people off buying over here and it doesn’t always lend itself well to having been looked after as well as a car might be in the UK. Also, older cars can take a beating with the salty air and can rust faster. Might not be relevant on said Porsche perhaps. Again not probably applicable to a Porsche, but I would never buy a diesel from the Channel Islands as the cars (legally) dont exceed 35mph.

IOM cars don't have MOTs and they get very crusty very quickly with the salty air and lots of gravelly roads. Have a good look underneath it if you can.

I don't think that you need to declare it as an import as it's the same VAT jurisdiction and the same regulations. You don't need a NOVA for cars from the IOM.

40mph is max speed limit in Jersey.

I thought 50 was the minimum for poseurs on the seafront?
And there's a good little hill climb near Bon Nuit Bay? We ragged the hired fiesta there years back.

Personally I'd be wary of a Jersey car as it may have had a lot of short journeys where it doesn't get to proper temperature.
OTOH, it might have been only used for trips to the Alps etc.

Alderney used to be well stocked with dubious cars.

Thanks everyone. I think I will pass, too many risks. Nice car though. Here is the mileage and dates of the first four services, all at Porsche Jersey. Did quite lot of miles between some services, wonder if it was outside of Jersey.

It was a single Jersey owner 2010-2021, then very maintained in England since then by another single owner.
