I think there's something fishy going on here but eBay don't agree - I tried reporting a couple of listings to no avail.

https://ebay.io/m/7ZRrzz

Seller has 250 cars listed, all with only one photo and an image containing contact details. At least some of the photos are taken from PH auctions - they generally look professional and similar in style. Some of the asking prices are silly - 10 grand for a Vanquish, sure!

Came to my attention through a saved search for 'BBR MX-5' which usually throws up a new listing once or twice a month. 9 new results at once caught my attention...

All looks very odd to me but don't know what the scam is really. Prices are just all wrong.

Yeah, they're classified ads so someone would have to make contact to hand over any money. I wonder (since 'free delivery' is advertised) whether it's a deposit/reservation fee scam.

The scam will be that they ask for a £500 holding deposit. Anyone responding to the adverts is an idiot so their conversion rate will likely be quite high.

The icing on the cake is that the items are located on the Isle of Skye.

I thought including your telephone number in advert was against eBay rules.

If you do a check on the company named at the bottom of each advert you will realise it's a scam.

It happens regularly. Somebody has managed to find out the log in details of a user and has piggy backed all those ads to it, hoping to get a bite. The TVR photo is from a PH auction this week! It seems to be the fashion to also put a bizarre price, this is often the case.

They usually have a gmail address shown in a photo, but this ones thinks he's a bit more sophisticated by listing an actual phoner number. A mobile no / whatsapp phone no of course, which will be untraceable. Thornton Hope is a real company though, which is the process of being struck off; accounts overdue since December 2024.

They often target established dealers on Ebay.

Dealer gets an email from a customer saying they have a part exchange.

In the email is a link to their Ebay advert saying "it's on Ebay if you want to see pictures, and info about my PX".

Dealer clicks on Ebay link and it takes them to a very official looking Ebay login page.

They enter their log in, and have just given it away to these scammers.

Scammer quickly changes the password and lists cars well under market value, pinching pics from anywhere on the net.

And as said above, people think their onto a bargain call the number and are told "lots of interst with the car, give me a £500 deposit to hold it for you"
