Buying high milage golf gtd
Discussion
Hi. Whats peoples views.
I had a golf gtd that we got rid a few years ago with over 200k. Car was still running great but didnt need 2nd car at that time
So im looking for another one.
I want a manual so I only have to 2019.
Whats your views on high milage. Eg nearing the 100k.
I would only go for fsh and now I would only do about 7000 at top per year.
I know mines went high milage but I had it from it was young so knew its history.
I can't do basic repairs so going to be in for everything.
I dont want a automatic( creature of habit).
Other than the gtd I've looked at diesel manual bmw and merc- but im drawn back to the gtd.
Any views.

Keep a decent fund for expenses. EGR Cooler on my GT went at about 140k. £1700.
I always had mine serviced every 10k, always ran on V-Power (really!). Avoided all the other big expenses (EGR, DPF, DMF, Turbo, injectors, clutch were still all original when I got rid at 142k), but there’s potentially quite a few expensive failure points even with servicing, like any higher mileage diesel.
Budget? How long do you want to keep it for?

If you are only doing 7000 miles a year it doesn’t make any sense at all to get a diesel, especially with pump prices the way they are currently. You’re just increasing the likelihood of something going wrong with the DPF/EGR/clutch/flywheel, especially on an older, more leggy car.
Get a Golf GTE for lower mileages, or if you really want a manual get a GTI

It depends surely on how you do those miles, 20 miles a day then probably not a good idea, 2 75 mile trips a week probably fine. Plus at that price there will be far more diesels to choose from.Get a Golf GTE for lower mileages, or if you really want a manual get a GTI
I have has Seat Leon with 184 diesel engine for 2.5 years now and it has given very little trouble, just put new caliper on the rear and apart from servicing it has needed nothing else. This week it will hit 136k miles. It does about 7k miles a year in my hands but rarely does a trip of less than 50 miles.
