One of my sons is keen on buying Mrs 131 Sports White 72 Plate BMW 118i M Sport off us.

As a replacement we’d be looking for something up to a year old and would only consider an Audi, BMW, Mini or Mercedes.

We both like Mini’s and I was very keen on a Sunnyside Yellow 2 Door Cooper S Sport. However, (for absolutely no logical reason) she wants a 4 door car and I absolutely loathe the look of 4 door Mini’s.

A natural alternative would be a BMW 120i in M Sport Trim or the equivalent Audi or Mercedes. Does anyone have any ownership experiences of the BMW 120i.

My wife has a 120 M Sport 74 plate

Bought it 13 months ago with about 5k on the clock

1.5 3 cylinder engine.

Its fine for what she needs.

Bit small for long journeys and the engine can be a bit "thrashy" when pressed

I also disliked the 4/5dr Mini shape, then bought one with the Sport trim anyway... Largely because I find the Sport model's JCW pack does a good job of changing the overall shape with the extended bumpers/spoilers. I think also the black roof and side graphics help break up the side view - but very much personal preference.

Certainly not everybody's cup of tea and not as pretty as the 3dr but I like it - and it does have extra legroom/boot space as well as improved rear access so worth the compromise for me.

The wife really liked the 120i. However my son had a change of heart and bought a 3 year old 220i. Headache over.
