Hi guys, i'm thinking of buying a pick up double cab and like the look of the Mitsubishi L200 but don't really know what the different is between the Animal or the Warrior? I live in a small village so i only want it to get me, the wife and the kids to and from town, and use it for the old job around the house and pulling the caravan, i don't need it for work (the more car like the better). I've got about 5K to spend. Can anyone help me please? bow

If you are looking to spend around £5k then I guess you must be looking at the older type and not current models and in that case the Warrior was the higher spec (leather, alloys, etc)wheareas now Im sure that the Animal is higher spec confused.

Sounds like you would be better off with an SUV or a big estate! none of the pickups are that car like to drive and the double cabs are cramped inside when full of passengers!

Terrible tow vehicles. IMHO only get a pickup if you specifically need the seperate external load area. They are not designed to be great as everyday cars. With no load in the rear they are generally all a bit jumpy and can be a handeful in the wet in RWD. You'd be far better off with something like this. Much more comfortable, better equiped and far better for towing a caravan.

The Animal is the top of the range model, the warrior is the one down. Not many Animals about so finding a good one is hard, Warriors are plentyful.

My brother had an Warrior. No mechanical issues and good fun if a bit agricultural. Came with all the toys and his was chipped which improved performance and economy. Only issue was its thirst - low 20's

??
can't agree with that, went from a Jeep GC to a Navara, the space in the back is about the same (actually Navara might be a little bigger as it has no wheel arch issues near the rear door)

Can't agree with that either...

longer wheelbase and live rear axles make much better tow cars, most independent setup's don't have the lateral rigidity to cope with heavy towing as well.

Having owned an L200 and then the Navara I can honestly could not agree more, both are functional but not something you want to behind the wheel of every day. They are commercial vehicles and expect the ride to reflect that.

This could be worth a look though ;-) http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1005757.htm

only ever driven an old shape L200 and that was a truck.

the Navara is a different animal (D40 that is), on my second one, I do some 20K+ a year in it, and whist I am not trying to tell you it's a Rolls Royce in comfort terms, it's ride comparable with a lot of mainstream cars.

I though about a crew cab briefly. Ended up buying a mitsubushi L400/ spacegear. Was quite rare when I bought mine but much more common now (all grey imports)

The only cool people carrier in the world, very comfortable long distance cruiser, the owners who tow reckon their brill, and at 15'3" for the SWB much easier to park in cities than a crewcab. Shogun sourced parts = genuine offroad ability too. check out www.mdocuk.co.uk if you're intrested.

Nope the warrior has an electronic diff too and the leather was standard on the 04 warrior (we had 2)

Sorry, he is right. Had an L200 and it was an awful tow vehicle; long overhang at the rear, floppy long travel suspension and no-feel, lifeless steering made it actually quite scary to pull heavy loads with.

They are ghastly to own in general, i cannot descrive how bad a vehicle mine was (top of the range L200, the Diamond Double-Cab).

Hateful things; buy anything but.

the elec difflock was a £1100 option on the warrior but standard on the animal, leather was not standard on any l200 but maywell have been fitted to help shift them as they fell out of favour when the navara was introduced

I can.
A friend of mine bought one to tow his rally car trailer. There was so much movement available between the tyres and the tow-hitch it used to wander about like nothing!
He towed it with his Estate car in the end because it was so much better. Was pissed off with the waste of money though.....

I had a 53 plate warrior from new and that had elctronic rear diff as standard, and I put in leather as a £1k option. Fuel economy was around 25mpg slightly better on a run. Rear passenger room was indeed cramped but just useable and yep it sure was lively at the back end when on a wet roundabout!
Have now got a 57 Navara aventura and it is a much better vehicle powerwise, rear passenger spacewise, ride comfort is better too and even fuel economy is better averaging 27mpg.
All double cabs are a compromise vehicle but offer decent 4wd load carrying and good interiors and VAT reclaimable biggrin . My wife loves it,me.... its ok but I prefer to drive my Cerbera,200sx or Defender but not neccesarily in that order as it depends on the conditions!!!

I used one for towing for 8 months and I am definately going to stick to my first reply. My current hilux is far better but I'd still take a SUV type 4X4 over it if it was for everyday driving and weekend towing. These are commercial vehicles at heart and will always struggle on comfort and everyday use.

not driven the current Hilux, so can't comment on it specifically...

what I can say is that the (Current D40) Navara is way more stable a tow car than:

Jeep CG
RR Vogue (and some brakes would help)
Shogun (current shape)
Kia Sorento

Only SUV that's as stable IMHO is the full sized land cruiser
