Discrepancy between Glass's Guide & Parker's Guide
Discussion
Mother is looking to trade in her '07 1.3 diesel Corsa for a '10 1.3 diesel Corsa, mainly to get the cheaper tax and the whizzy new 100,000 mile warranty Network Q now offer.
I've thrown the details into Parker's and it came up with a part-ex number of £5300. However the same details into Glass's thingy on the Vauxhall website comes out as £4500, which is a pretty hefty difference. I hate haggling, although I will when it involves this much money. Any idea which one is right?

Frankly I can't be arsed to have that argument. It's only done 38k and is a fine little car, but she wants a newer car.
Which is fair enough, but as above that kind of thinking is crazy. If your mother must sell you have to go with the Glass' valuation as by the sounds of it this won't be a private sale and the Glass price is the best reckoner for commercial sales.davepoth said:

How many miles a year does your mother drive?I've thrown the details into Parker's and it came up with a part-ex number of £5300. The lady wants a new car, and is able to buy a new car, therefore she will buy a new car.
Crikey she's even helping the economy by not being tightfisted: good on her.
The OP will soon convince his mother about the merits of the 335D I'm sure

We use either CAP or Glass's in the trade, I've yet to hear of a Parkers valuation that is anything close to reality.
Also remember the guides are just that, a guide, some vehicles are worth less than book, some worth more.

parkers is a poor mans estimate and is rarely taken seriously in the "biz"
There is often £1000 difference between the two TRADE guides (CAP and Glass's), let alone including Parkers into the mix. And just to add even more confusion the books have generally gone up again this month, making it 4 months in a row now.
In answer to the OPs question of how much is the car worth, the answer is it is worth what the highest offer is. The guides are simply guides and they don't actually make offers.

So an old topic BUT... I am now at the painful stage of negotating the value of my total loss (stolen) BMW535d. Parkers value it (Dealer price) as £19,371. Glass (Dealer price)at £17,490. The insurer has come back with a revised bid of £17,170 but looking on Autotrader - the only real fair value indicator as far as I can tell - It seems to be worth around £18,500.
Any advice on holding out for it or is this another victory for the theives?
