Contract when buying a car -advice needed please
Discussion
Ok, so after all the helpful advice here i found a vehicle which looked ok on paper, but was a long way away. My local dealer (part of the same group) said they could bring the car for me to look at, and i would just need to leave a refundable deposit which would be returned if i didnt want to go for it. As this is all in writing i got comfortable with the approach.
Fast forward a few days, they have sent me an order form for me to sign. Its been a while since i did this, but to my mind i have not yet agreed a firm price or agreed to buy the car, so i dont want to sign an order form. Is this standard?
I have suggested they send some more info and videos of the car before they transport it, but i think they are going to go ahead anyway. I have put in writing that i am not committed to the car at this point. Ideally it would have been a local vehicle and i could have gone to see it beforehand, but while moving a car and then deciding seems ok, signing paperwork seems a step too far, but i defer to others knowledge here.

I'm with you and I would not be wanting to sign an order form for the car, because as you stated a deal has not been agreed on the car.
I would wait for them to send the videos / photos through before handing over any sort of deposit, I'd also want to see any summary of the service history etc.
Tell them you are happy to leave a refundable deposit for them to transport the car but not a sales order form.
I'd also make sure that I paid the deposit on a credit card.

Thanks, I didnt think the contract should be signed. I would wait for them to send the videos / photos through before handing over any sort of deposit, I'd also want to see any summary of the service history etc.
