throttle sticking at 6,000 revs

So, it made stopping / getting home quickly a problem.

I think is is the Throttle Cam Spring.

Anyone out there know the part number?

Nick bring it round and i will take a look

the early cars had a sticking throttle problem - the throttle cable needed to be re routed

Can't mate, I think I'd burn out the clutch just getting it to you. :-(

Nick,

Just undo the cable at the throttle end and manually check the cable and throttle, it'll be obvious which one is causing it.

But honestly if I touch anything engine related the next thing that happens is usually terminal. Yes I am that bad.
But fortunatley have a brother-in-law who can strip and re assemble any machine from a saxophone to a combine harvester using only his fingernails...in the dark :-)

Hi Nicky, be very supprised if it's not the throttle cable as it is routed past the front turbo and down the tunnel , normally the turbo cooks it !!! You have to run a new cable down the drivers cill . Tux

I had the throttle stick on my Esprit GT3 some years ago on the motorway. At motorway speeds, taking your foot off the accelerator and finding the car getting faster and faster is not something I would recommend !

My Throttle cable is routed down the offside sill, is this something they changed on later models?

You don't even have to disconnect the throttle cable. With the engine off, first inspect the throttle body to see if it's stuck open. If it is, give the cable a pull to see if the cable is holding the throttle open, or if the cable is moving freely. If the throttle isn't stuck open, try rotating the cam by hand, to make sure it moves freely. Make sure nothing (like the breather hose) can interfere with the movement of any of the throttle parts. If the cam moves freely, pull on the cable to see if it moves OK - you may need someone to sit inside the car to press the accelerator pedal while you watch to see if everything moves smoothly...

the earlier cars went down the tunnel and were close to the turbo and thus burn... i re-routed mine to be same place as your and my new wheels caught the cable and redlined the car getting it off Tuxmans drive.... i have sorted the wheels now so they cant rub the inner arch but the cable is pretty exposed in the arch IMO

OK, done that.
Nothing snagging on the throttle cam.
When I rev the engine using the cam it's fine.
Sometimes, just sometimes when I do the same with the accelerator peddle it sticks at the revs I take it to.

Any use?

If it is the old problem, whereby the cable is (was?) routed above the forward turbo then I fear its too late and you'll need a new cable (rerouted as others have said) as the problem is that the plastic outer core melts and seizes the cable itself.

takes 15mins to fit a new cable down the sill... did mine last week

refitting down the tunnel will be a little harder

Exact sypmtons I had, The inner part of the cable on my 3R was about to let go at the pedal, was fortunate it was the inner cable, in that I sent the replacement inner down the original outer and hey-presto all fine.

Only once I disconnected from the throttle pedal and passed it out the front of the car I could see the inner had un-wravelled and was about to let go!
