CD Headunit replacement

I'm sick of CDs!
Started shopping yesterday for a half-decent USB enabled unit.
My shortlist of requirements:
Bluetooth (for telephone calls) with external mic although I suspect it will be useless !
USB
Remote control
Halfords guys told me that headunits with handheld remote controls are a "thing of the past".
I doubt it so I've started a good old surf for options.
Whilst at it I might change the Sony Xplod speakers too.

With regard to the speakers
I have replaced the speakers with Rockford fosgates, I have also put an edge 4 channel amp in from halfords,
With the other 2 channels I am getting a 5 inch set of rock fords and putting them at the rear of the doors. There is plenty of room and a hole there already although it will need cutting a bit larger

I fitted one of these just after Christmas;

And it has a remote just like the Sony Head Unit.
( It seems to have gone up a fair bit, I paid £90 from Halfords at the start of the year ).
Then I got a pair of these :

The speaker boxes I then velcroed behind the seats. They only slight problem I found was that the boxes are not handed, which was a bit poor.
I kept the original door speakers.
Sounds okay to be. Okay, it's all China's finest I know but it does the trick.

Can you actually hear the music though?
I've given up and listen to the sweet music of the engine instead.
However I have a Sony head and it takes CDs but has a USB port and you can plug in your iPod etc and it recognises it. Plus I use that port to recharge my phone when needed.
Is this not a standard unit?

That's why I did not go mad and spent less than 200 sheets on a Halford's Own Brand head unit etc and did not go for something expensive. Can you actually hear the music though?

The one I had took tapes in the head unit ( Tapes ? What are they I hear the young people cry. ). And then it had a CD-autochanger bolted behind the passenger's seat. No USB.I've given up and listen to the sweet music of the engine instead.

The best thing for the Nob is to use a Sony as the steering control unit will still work with it. The 3 units I would choose are.
BT3700
BT4700
BT5700
The last one is the better one as you can down load your phone to it. It comes with the external mic (although they seem to work fine without it).
The beauty of using the sony is that you can answer the call from the steering control unit and obviously change your music as before. all of these also stream music via BT and you can flick through your ones music from the steering remote. You can connect your phone to the unit and it will display your songs and you can flick through playlist.
If you have satnv on your phone it also via the BT comes out your speakers.

I read that; staggeringly piss-poor. It's clearly been written by some recent marketing graduate from The South Humberside Institute of Technology that thinks they are being 'edgy' and or some such other marketing nonsense.
