Hi everyone,
As Matty wrote the last race report for Snetterton back in March, I thought I would have crack at doing one, we were the best!! and won!!
Job Done.
If only Carlsberg wrote race reports.
Right apparently Matty says this is not good enough, so here goes.
Friday night we left Yarmouth for Cadwell Park, with the car looking very shiny and clean and with the addition of the new Ebay wide boy wing.
Adam, Matty, Peter & Dale all in good spirits & looking forward to a good day on Saturday, when we got to Cadwell there was already a lot of cars there and tents up as there had been a test day on the Friday which unfortunately we could not make, so we parked the car up for the night and headed back to the hotel 1/2 an hour away.
Race day
All up nice and early as we were staying in Boston and had to be back to Cadwell for 7am sign on, got back with time to spare and all was going well until we hit scutineering.
When we fitted the kill switch for the electrics, the friend who did it for us (were not very good with electrics) wired it up so when the switch was turned it would kill the power to the ignition and the engine would die, but would leave enough power for the ECU as we had been told that our ECU was the learning type, unfortunately it also held enough power to keep the side lights on as well.
So the extremley friendly, helpfull scrutineering bloke told this was not allowed and we would fail scutineering if we could not do anything with it as all electrics must be killed when the switch is thrown. So Matty with his technical ability just yanked out the add on bit (sorry don’t know exactly what it’s called, but I did say we were rubbish at electrics) to the wiring loom for the kill switch, and all was good again and we were allowed to race.
Practice
There wasn’t one on this day, so not a lot to say about that.
Qually
Matty went out first and tried to get the most out of the qualifing session but it was very busy on track and he never really got a clear lap to give it the full beans and was very much the same story for me, but we both got round with no drama and qualified 17th on the grid out of 27 cars which put us 3rd in our class which we were really happy with as we had only ever been to Cadwell once before. It was very hard to settle in and get a good time when you only have 10-15 mins but we did manage to get a 1 min 53.4 secs.
The Race
It was my turn to start at this one and it was my first time at starting a race so stress levels were a little high. At the beginning I couldn’t help thinking that maybe I should have volunteered to start at Snetterton knowing how tight the track was at Cadwell but just thought keep calm and remember to breathe. All the cars left the assembly area to line up on the grid which is not very far and we had no warm up lap so I was very concious that we had cold brakes and tyres.
It seemed like I had been there for a good while when the 1 min board went up, then 10 secs later the 30 sec board, then the 5 sec board followed straight after and all around you could just here the rumble of engines roaring into life which was quite amazing and then were off. I got really good traction off the line and had to back off slightly as not to hit the car in front of me, I made the first few corners no problems and everyone was behaving themselves, I'd calmed right down by this point and held 3rd for the next couple of laps before getting caught out by a late braking Nova which knocked us down to 4th but after a few really good tussles and some sneaky overtaking moves I had got us back to 2nd place when they called me in for the driver change.
No hick ups what so ever on the pit, thanks to Peter’s idea to bring me in a little early as I had started to pull out a little bit of a the lead on the 3rd place car.
Matty was straight out and on top form, pulling really quick and consistant times from his first lap, then we noticed that the 1st place car hadn’t come round, later we found out the his wheel had come off, which also happened to another clio in front of me on my stint.
Luckily he then had nice clear track and kept up the quick laps, putting in 1 min 50.1 lap, my quickest being a 1 min 50.7, so were still arguing about who’s the fastest.
He was being chased by a guy who works for Javellin trackdays and lives near Cadwell, and from what we understand has quite a bit experience at the circuit but held him off and finished 4 secs in front bringing the car home in 1st place in our class. We finsihed 13th overall out of the 20 cars that did manage to finish the race.
As you can imagine we over the moon with the way we had both driven and how the car performed.
The Podium
A new addition to the race report and hopefully not the last, we are a bit worried we may have peaked a bit to early and used up all our good moves in one race so I guess we will just have to wait and see how we get on next time.
I cannot speak for Matt, but it was an amazing feeling being called up to the podium as class winners and I did ask if he wanted to spray the champers but he let me do it from which I enjoyed every second.
Thank You’s
Once again the pit crew consisting of Dale (Spanner Chucker) Kemp & Peter (Dad) Betts were on perfect form and were on hand to help and take the piss whenever needed.
MSV for putting on a well organised day.
The wives for putting up with all our car stuff and that we are never at home anymore.
Best Regards to all.

seems there is an impressive amount of talented drivers here, well done
Cheers Guys.... It,s owning these Bloody Nobles, It seems to get a lot of people interested in racing.
All I can say is I'm happy to be taking the Highs as I'm sure there will be Lows to come but I really do wish I could of had the opportunity to of started doing this years ago...... But hey.... At least were doing it now.
Thanks for the support lads, It makes it even better when you can share the experience.
James, No idea of the make/model of the wing but I grabbed it on Ebay for £80 and It suits the car in my eyes, Also we noticed after watching the rear view camera after the race that the end tips flex down up to about an inch over 100mph so it must be grabbing some air.
