Exhaust Manifold and Exhaust question

Hi all

I have a question for you all!

I have a GTO-3. Both manifolds are cracked. Is it worth having them welded up, or is it better to buy the upgraded ones from Noble?. Will they crack again if welded?

Also, is the Roush exhaust still available?. Roush UK takes me to a random website that doesnt really help

Hi Jules , depends how much you want to spend , the new Noble units are a big improvement over the STD ones and ceramic coating does help protect the manifold , allunox manifolds are supposed to be the best !!
There are a few options with exhaust , roush is one option but it's very loud and will be a problem if you want yo track the car , allunox will make you a system along with both Hayward and Scott , there are a couple of other people but I cannot remember there names !!! Sorry old age I'm sure someone will pop up with details :-)

Well i think the manifolds need replacing, or ill just end up with the same problems again and again!.
Noble ones are about £460 each. Any idea how much the Alunox ones are?

What does the Roush exhaust sound like? I want something thats more high pitched, than a drone.

I have Roush one on my 3R and they sound great. If high pitched is your target then these aint it. They are deep and throaty and very very loud. Previous owner told me he failed the sound test at a track day and the limit was 98DB.

I'm in a similar position with my manifolds at the moment and was thinking about doing the exhaust system at the same time, but the thought of spending 3 grand on some metal pipes is bringing me out in a cold sweat

I have worked out its £951 for Noble uprated manifolds with all gaskets.

So as far as i know, there is the H&S, Roush and Urban racing.

Which is the loudest?, which is the best quality?

Just a note my new moded T28 seezed solid, Turns out some metal from my inlet manifold which are uprated and stainless steel broke off and ruined my rear turbo, seems what ever way you go there is a problem.

Grants running full H&S system now with Flexi's fitted , made 97db at Snetterton and there is no difference between the Roush and our H&S system when it comes to power , not sure on full cost might be worth giving Ian at H&S a call , if budget was not a issue I would go Allunox but pound for pound the H&S system rakes some beating , I use STD downpipes with a H&S box that cost £800 +vat ..... Good value and great power :-)

Ray west can repair them amd get a plate welded over them to strengthen them

once done they will never crack again

So you've removed the 'Y' but kept the standard cats, correct?

Yep Y pipe gone but I've cut out the STD cats and seem welded the pipes back together , I'm still running the original STD manifolds but I've ceramic coated them so far 2 years and 8000 miles including 800 on track and they are still in good order !!! Best manifolds i think are Allunox , but if I bought them I would still ceramic coat them !!!

If they are weldable then have them strengthen and fit an exhaust with flexes in them... I would stay well away from coating or wrapping them as this retains the heat and could speed up future failure, I know some have done it but I wouldn't ( and havnt dispite doing rest of my exhaust).

There are a lot of options for exhaust and it depends what you want, whatever make sure they have as not having these is a reason for the manifolds failing.

If your local to Essex I have a spare non cracked manifold I will swop for one of yours!

I went with Alunox manifolds and system, No problems so far in 4500 miles, Sounds sweet without being too loud.
I think the best bits is that Leon redesigned the turbo brackets from the manifold and the box is repackable if ever needed which I dont think any of the others are.

Mattys system is very impressive !!! And if budget is not a issue it's the way to go !!!
Ceramic coating the manifolds inside and out will protect the manifold from the heat , Daddysumo has had 2 of the new manifolds fail because of heat and after speaking to Camcoat I feel ceramic coating would have prevented this , my car still has the original manifolds and they are still in good order even after 40000 miles , I agree wrapping them could add to the heat management issues but IMO ceramic coating is the best way to protect the STD manifolds .
