Does the rear wing really have any effect on a Noble M12 GTO 3 road car?

Not sure, I drove mine around a few roundabouts without and it felt more tail happy than normal?! Might just be in my head tho!!

Am I right in thinking you need to be travelling in excess of 100mph for any downforce from the spoiler?
Someone want to verify that?

I have seen a chart on the net that shows the amount of downforce vs speed, I think it was done in a wind tunnel with the car on a weigh bridge ( corner weights ) or something like that. I can't find the link now, maybe someone on here has seen the same chart? With a link.

The rear wing has no benifit at low speed only at high speed & l doubt on the road you would notice any difference, for road use you are relying on mechanical grip not areo.

If you look at Chris's (R0162) White car looks lovely without the wing.

Yes I saw Chris's car on PistonHeads earlier this year, so I was thinking of removing mine and fitting a low profile type, in body colour.

Something like the way it looks on a Lotus Elise SC.

Following our track day at Snetterton Gadge and talking with you and Tux, I bought some 10mm angle with the intent of fitting a gurney strip but I read they cause drag.

Interesting comments, maybe I should try driving my car with the wing removed.

I would guess the wing as no effect until you’re above the national speed limit.

I was hoping I could get some concrete evidence/results.

I’ve tried searching the web with no results.

I've had 4 Esprits, and wings are featured a lot on them, that is that a) there are quite a few different designs and b) it raises a lot of debate as to their effectiveness.

One of the main areas is the size of the wing against the size of the transom ( the bit that sticks up at the back of car ).

This has some stuff from Lotus about the wings etc. I know it's not the same car, but some of it must be relevant.

i guess a simple test would be to replace the bolts holding the rear wing with load cells

and measure the force at different road speeds

i might get round to it one day when i get some spare time !

We were once that the rear wing was 'useful' over 120mph in a corner but the you need to take into account its extra weight.

According to Peter Boutwood, all it did was slow it down by 5ish MPH.

During my Noble research I came across this: http://www.nobleforums.com/showthread.php?2917-Siz... It details and photographs the plug sizes required if you remove the rear wing, but may want to put it back some day. Thought I would place it here for anyone searching in the future. Apologies for the bump.

During the rain soaked practice on Sunday my Vikki took a few vids of me and its clear to see the long Jetstream diffuser/standard wing and gurney combo create good downforce, the 'rooster tail' is just as large as the focus with the WRC spoiler and diffuser down the back straight. Will try get the video loaded tonight. Also I was able to put down full power in those soaking conditions above 80mph which normally would have been wheels pin up to 120 at least.
