So this on-car disk skimming really works. Never been in a Noble with such smooth braking before!

Highly recommended. If you are down in the South East then Austec seem a good place to go - nice Tasimo coffee whilst you wait

£90 inc. vat for two, so £180 for the lot.

Somewhat expensive (although it takes about 3 hours to do the lot, so about £50/hour labour which didn't feel too bad), but far cheaper than replacing the disks which was my previous approach!

Great to hear it has worked for you also. It really does make such a difference. The distortion must be in the hubs and not the discs. I believe the hubs were cast in South Africa.

I'm heading to Jetstream tomorrow morning to have this issue looked at.

Current plan will be to replace the hubs&bearings and then possibly get skimming done if that doesn't cure it.

Would I be correct in saying that whilst skimming may solve the problem it is actually masking the underlying issues?

Depends I suppose on your point of view. Skimming leaves a constant thickness, so does it really make much difference if the hub was at 1 degree positive, and the disk at 1 degree negative, or if they are both at 0?

Whilst they needed to take off a "lot", the maximum was just 2thou, so it's amazing how something so small can create so much judder.

Austec said that almost every Ford they've seen with that 4 bolt hub has needed it - so it doesn't seem to be just a Noble problem. FWIW - they didn't think just buying new Ford hubs would solve it.

Interesting about the Ford bit - I've previously had issues with Ford brakes and found that having the calipers remanufactured (new seals, pistons, etc) has resolved the issues.

Granted, not in the same performance league by any margin...

My advice would be to save yourself a load of money and get the brakes skimmed as they are.

I'm led to believe the problem was created by Noble who machined a hub to fit the bearing rather than use a matched set , you can upgrade the Hubs and bearing which will improve the problem but ultimately you might still have to have them machined .
Over the winter I upgraded all mine and so far they are ok , guess time will tell !! Tux
