Apart from the obvious differences of engine and 'box, a GTO3 seems to make almost no audible turbo whoosh and dump noise when compared with a 2.5. Is this correct and something to do with the difference in positioning of the air filters in. 3L versus the 2.5? Or is this not normal?

Is there a way of making the turbo noises of a GTO3 louder and sound more like a 2.5?

Is that an easy process? Call me juvenile but I loved the whoosh noises of my stolen 2.5 and the replacement 3.0 doesn't sound the same.
Who should I go to and any idea of cost?
Much appreciated.

My 3 has the filters on the bulkhead from standard, to change all you need is a couple of K&Ns, brackets and some pipe. I'd deffo have them there even if performance is slightly affected as discussed on here, noise is brilliant!

Glad you agree D G, that silly amount if dump valve noise was what I loved about the 2.5 I owned for about 2 weeks before it got stolen.
Surely I can use the filters the new 3.0 has? Any recommendations of nearest place to west London to get the change made? Not entirely confident it's a job for me to carry out!
Cheers

I expect you can use the originals, the pipes are really long but looks like universal pipe and the brackets are specially made alloy. I can send a piccy if you want.

Sounding easier and easier, no?
Post a pic Dave, that would be great.
What colour is your car?
I pick my new one up next Fri, and the only thing I want to do is make the noise how I liked it on the old one!

The bulkhead scoops appear to have good airflow but that air is supposed to be for cooling of the engine bay, plus when you are stationary at this location you can soak up alot of hot air from the engine bay, so instead i positioned mine to the top of the side pod, which also sounds even better than the bulkhead location, due to the big empty sills amplifying the sound. Only move the one from the front turno though, leave the rear turbo filter in the IC box. You may need to get a Blow off valve fitted to get the completed sound you used to hear from the 2.5.
Here are some pics, the mod took about 1 hour.

the pipe from the front turbo will already be long enough, in fact you will have to shorten it, no brackets required, just screw through the splash guard into the filter, but you will end up with your oil catch tank breather pipe being too short, so to remedy this put am air filter as in the pic below, finally remember to block up the old hole in the IC box with some Ali or SS plate.

Finally!!! It's been such a long time coming especially with the last ownership experience being 2 weeks before it got stolen.
At last, when I pick it up this coming Friday, I will be part of the Noble clan!
Dark blue GTO3, photos to follow.
Cannot wait to get used to owning it.

Thanks for all that, definitely sounds like the best option. Does that splash guard come out quite easily to cut the hole and fit the filter cone?
And is that basic looking black bendy pipe the one that goes onto the air filter? surely not. I wont actually have my car until next weekend so not 100% familiar with the layout of everything yet.

Finally, as i am not yet blueprinted in the brain as to the engine bay layout, the bit about oil catch tank pipe confuses me. Why when moving the air filter from IC to side vent affect this? An explanation would be really good and also where to get one of those little filters - i may as well get on and order one!

cheers
Lawrence

p.s. here she is, and next Friday she'll be in my garage!

I would just purchase the front filter hard pipe kit from Pro alloy, and the breather as well then all would be well.
May as well get the intercooler while you are at it

Edited to add I don't seem to loose any performance with the front mounted filters....

Have you posted a pic of yours on the "let's see your Nobles" thread?

Intercooler may have to wait until I have some money after buying the car! Might look into the pipe kit but I do like the DIY approach in the side vent lining. But where do I get that little oil filter part?

Cheers

Nope no pics...... you could just run the vent pipe out of the floor like you do with the Pro alloy one but the standard one does spew oil out on hard cornering.I may have the standard front pipes with the built in union for the catch tank vent somewhere...

Yes the black pipe pipe is standard smile The hard pipe kit is better like Steve said.
I also got good results with the bulkhead location, had it like that for years with no noticeble power loss, i did some tests measuring after Ic air intake temps and when moving the temps would drop rather quickly with the bulkhead location, bulkhead or side pod are both good, but having done both i can say side pod sounds better.

I think I'll go for the side pod option, but just need clarification on why I need the little oil filter thing? I don't think my car has that nice alloy tank that you have so where would that little filter go normally?

Cheers
