High pitch noise

I'm having a really worrying noise from my car... It only started recently when I changed my wheels back to the standard ones with the original bridgestones.

It only happens at around 4500rpm and I think it's coming from the rear but hard to tell as I'm usually giving it some beans on high boost so having to concentrate!

Do you think it could be related to my wheels? Or could there be some other kind of immanent failure/issue...Must admit it's got me pretty worried especially as we are approaching our trip to spa

No ideas, I'm afraid but, if it's really high pitch, just wait a few years and you won't be able to hear it.

Andy you mention it's at 4500 rpm so assume that's in any gear ? If so the surely must be engine related ?
Have you tried fitting the other wheels back as you say it's only since you changed them !

Serious mode: does the pitch of the sound change in line with engine revs or does it rise when accelerating hard? First could be gearbox (bearing?), second could just be the turbo(s).
Personally I just love the whine of my turbos.

my advice is get the car on a rolling road and hold it at 4500 rpm at light and hard throttle

you should be able to very quickly find out what is making the noise

do you think its the alternator ? try some wd40 on it

Yes it's any gear... Never had the noise with the other wheels... I've also notices the tyres seem to be wearing out very quickly on the rear, could this be related :-)

Yes it's any gear... Never had the noise with the other wheels... I've also notices the tyres seem to be wearing out very quickly on the rear, could this be related :-)

I think the tyre wear is related to Boost and throttle usage combined...

Gee let me think 630 bhp & wearing out the rears quickly ! Hopefully at least your wearing them evenly.

I've had to stand the wheels up almost totally upright to stop the drive shaft binding... currently thinking i will run 048's all the time on the road as i didn't find them noisy or harsh, its just cost

The good news is I had a chat with some of the experts and it appears the noise I am hearing it simply something called wheelspin

Had some great times in the tunnels in france...
