Question - do LED type bulbs, with the same bayonet fitting as standard filament type, exist? Has anyone tried them?

Yes and yes, avoid cheaper non resistor type makes indicator relay think you have low wattage lamps in, also in cars with "bulb out" warning light in the dash can cause incorrect "fail" indication.

I've bought a second hand set of lights and had them re-smoked. Off course I keep the originals aside

Smoked looks great on this car color

I also prefer the std lights when tinted to the round conversions... here is my version of tinting them

Ah ha, that will be my problem then, I brought some of fleebay and only the indicator ones work (although flash twice the rate). can I do anything to fix them or do I need to get another set of LED bayonet types?

One of my sidelights wouldn't work when I replaced it for LED but it was as simple as swapping the two wires over.
As for the indicators, you need approx 6 ohm (if memory serves me) 50W resistors, 1 for each corner (although I'm pretty sure mine worked with just 1 per side).

previous owner has fitted parking sensors ; very handy, and since they're black doesn't disturb car body looks.

You can just swap the flasher relay for an electronic one for £20. Got to be easier than resistors.
