Hi guys,

Just as above really, want to know the best way to wire it up, I have the mocal pump from think automotive, it has an earth and a positive wire attached already.

Also I have the temperature switch which is to be fitted (in line) to the side of the gearbox and will activate the pump when the oil reaches 90c.

I would like to wire this up to the spare switch in my dash so when i go on track can flick it on just to be sure, the dash switch has 3 connections on it's rear.

Any help much appreciated lads as my electrical knowledge is fairly limited.

Graham

You will need a relay and fuse if the pump pulls quite a bit of current

A fuse and a relay are a very good idea. I'd wire the power side of the relay just like the fuel pump wiring mod - 12V source to a fuse, then to the source side of the relay (pin 30), from the output side of the relay (pin 87) to the hot side of the oil pump. Ground wire on the pump goes to the chassis. Extra style points if you get the same sort of relay base as the ones already under the clam, and interlock it onto the existing ones for that stock look. On the control side of the relay, you can wire in the thermal switch that comes with your pump, with the dash switch in parallel with the thermal switch. Be sure to wire the control side of the relay using a switched 12V source, so that the pump turns off when the ignition is off. What I like to do is junk the thermal switch that comes with the pump (I've run into problems with them not lasting...), and wire in a digital controller. The controller allows me to set the turn on/turn off temps independently, and also has an input for a bypass switch so I can operate the pump manually.

If I remember correctly, the three terminals on the back of the dash switch are for 12v input, 12V output, and ground for the LED light. Unfortunately, I don't remember which terminal was which, but it was fairly easy to figure out with a meter, test leads, and a battery...

Jim could you put photos or a diagram up, as I'm about to wire a cooler into my new box aswell.

Also thinking about putting in an Engine oil cooler. Does anyone know where you connect up the engine oil cooler by the way?
