Here is the link to the semi auto paddle shift system which can be aftermarket fitted, it cost approx £2900+vat for the kit and claims a gear change in 50 milliseconds, after looking into the product it seems to have been fitted to quite a fwe racing cars and high end production cars.
Is it a farce or does it really do what it claims?

All the examples that I saw on the link you posted were with sequential, dog engagement gearboxes. Do you know if it works with an H-pattern synchro box?
My guess is that yes, you can get a shift on a sequential dog box done in 50ms or less. But I doubt if you can do the same with a H-pattern box, and even less likely with synchros...

The fundamental limit to shift times has is not gearbox or shift system limited, it is the inertia of the engine and the rev difference required during a shift. Race cars or cars with ultra low rotating inertia and very "close" gearsets can shift very rapidly. Road cars will simply break something if you try to do the same (the energy has to go somewhere!) The Geartronics systems is ok, but you really need a much greater degree of engine control interaction to get acceptable shift quality for a road car (look how long it took the OEM's to get a decent system.........).
As mentioned, most of the systems require a sequential barrel shift gearbox mechanics, as they only has a single actuator (back/forwards) so are unable to do cross gate shifts. These systems also do not automate the clutch generally, so you will still need to use that to pull away/stop etc.
