Donington Race report.. the hat trick
Discussion
evening all, another race report from a Nobler:
Donington Park race 7 (double length race and worth double points).
carrying on with the championship which moves to Donington Park. weather was amazing and qualifying went well... Pole position :-). was made up and a little surprised.
before the race we decided to change the tyre on the front near side as we were worried it wouldnt last the 30mins race. i only had a tyre which had quite a lot of tread and wasn't scrubbed in well enough and i knew this would unsettle the handling of the car which had been superb in qualifying.
I had a good start and got into a reasonable lead but when the tyres were up to temp the car began to understeer quite badly, especially in the old hairpin. this allowed the 2nd and 3rd place guys to catch and put a lot of pressure on. we battled for a few laps until a red flag from someone stuck in the gravel.
This allowed my tyres to cool while we waited, which im sure helped (meanwhile i roasted in the car ha), and on the restarted i got into another good lead. As 2nd and 3rd battled i pulled away and my car got better and better. i guess the tyre scrubbed in through the race and came into itself.
the race finished under another red flag and the win was mine :-)
to top that all off i got the fastest lap so that completed the hat trick.
worked out the championship standings and if i drop the 2 lowest scores (we drop the 4 lowest at the end of the season) i am leading the championship... only by 2 points so will be tough to keep up there.
my in car video is pretty boring but this is quite good (if you like MR2s ha)
