Hi all,

I know there has been some discussion of lightened flyweels in the past, but "Search" seems to have been broken for a while now and I can't find threads that deal with what effect they actually have - ie out of gear, how much quicker does the engine rev up/revs drop, and any change to in gear throttle response.

Can anyone that has one fitted give their opinions?

I know that the Fidanza Ally one weighs 9lbs and is part no 186251 for 3L/6speed and I recollect reading that a spacer ring may be required to stop the bolts catching. Any more info on this, or has that changed now?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Andy.

I read somewhere (I think) that engine noise may increase with this flywheel - did you find that?

How much quicker do the revs spin up and decay when revved out of gear? I know it's useless and it's the in gear response that I'm after, but I will always remember some years ago hearing an old Ferrari in a petrol station rev up from tickover to redline and back to tickover in what seemed like half a second or so! It sounded wicked, so just curious. biggrin

Finally, do revs still decay slow enough on downshifts that gearchanges are not unduly affected?

Thanks again

I got mine from jetsteam but not sure what make it is. It revs up and down a little quicker but don't expect it to be like a motorbike. I went for a paddle type clutch at the same time and it can be jerky and noisey sometimes.

I did loads to mine so not a fair comparison to what you get, it does rev better but on the downside revs drop quickly in gear and so the paddle clutch is noisy on downshift unless engine is blipped to stop the revs dropping.

My fully rebuilt box is noisy on idle due to all the weight lost, mine is worse than others with it fitted partly due to stiffer engine mounts also on the side rather than just front to rear.... FunkyBMX box is quiter than mine on idle with exactly the same clutch flywheel and pulley.

My lightened std flywheel was 7.5kgs std one is around 9.5kgs and the fidanza one is 3.8kgs!

if you go to silverstone next tuesday there ae a few of us there with this setup so we can show you

Interesting... But I'm running well over 600bhp and over 530ftlf and so are quite a few others and no failures so far... They are all used on track as well and used hard.

Sound like they have a design flaw for that motor?

Yikes! Those photos don't look too clever! frown

As Andy says - maybe there is a problem with that one.

It certainly doesn't paint a good picture of Fidanza as a company, something which I *think* I have come across from a couple of posts about their customer service on here, but of course search is still broken so I can't check now.

Equally though if people on this forum have been running them on Nobles with no issues, particularly with such awesome power & torque levels as above (which is way more than I will ever get to!) then I'm still inclined to go down that route.

Thanks for the heads up though - it's always best to have your eyes open!

Graham,
I had the first one in the UK on a Noble when mine was running in excess of 450 bhp / 400lbs & had no issues for over 3 years. I had AP clutch explode which damaged the friction surface but that can be changed & although l ended up changing the flywheel when upgrading to a Helix clutch the original Fidanza was fine.
Been running alot more power all year now & no issues with the flywheel & the car gets used hard !

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the extra info.

Just one question - why did you change the flywheel when you fitted the helix clutch? (which is something I'm also contemplating)

I suspect the answer is cost, you have to remove the engine to change the clutch/flywheel/slave... so if you do one its in your interest to do all the others!

Just wanted to double check that the helix upgrade will work with the fidanza.

I was considering clutch & slave while engine is out, even though they are fine at present, and so thinking of adding the flywheel to the list.

The list keeps getting bigger though! (machine for gearbox oil cooler fittings? steel bearing carriers, bearings, & seals ?.....)

I know what you mean about the list of bits. And don't forget all the little bits you might need. Even hoses, fittings and oil coolers etc can quickly add another £500 to £1000!

Jetstream are probably the guys to speak to though, they'll send you all the right bits.
