head lights

I have upgraded HIDs - since upgrading to them if I ever drive at night drivers coming towards me always flash their lights and stick on high beam completely blinding me.

It must be because my lights are too bright or wrongly angled. Are they adjustable? How does one go about doing it?

Unless you changed the whole light unit the light source is not in the correct position for the reflector (as oppsed to a filament lamp) and so will ALWAYS give off a diffused beam that will annoy oncoming traffic.
IIRC the filament lamps source is closer to the reflector than the HID source.

My MOT guy set mine up just fine.

Ligning up the general pattern is fine but you will still be dispersing diffused light aswell.
A simpathetic MOT tester does not make them legal or help oncoming drivers with the glare, sure you will see a whole lot better with them but at others cost.

Easily adjustable - best done at garage with headlight aligning equiptment. Unit then needs to be resealed obviously. Never had any probs with my HIDs over past 3 yrs.

I don't think it is patronising .. I would complain about other road users blinding me ... so I should be considerate as well.

I've been through 2 MOTs with my headlights and it has never been flagged up, it is only come to my attention recently due to driving at night over the summer. So I don't think an MOT test centre can adjust them correctly.

I fitted aftermarket HID's to My M400 and it quickly became apparent that even with the dip pattern at the correct angle there was still a lot of "glare" produced, this cannot be adjusted for.
There are direct alternative Heller units available that are a straight fit and designed for HID light source which brings the source into the correct focal point and produce very little glare.
PeterG researched this a good while back.
