Heater problem

Hi everyone
Got a problem with my heater was adjusting the heater control from the demist to the full face setting.As I turned the knob to the other setting it went from the usual tight movement to there being no resistance at all and now im just getting cold air blasting into the footwells.
I suspect something has come off from behind anybody had this prob before? and how do I go about sorting it?.
