Hi all,
is it just a case of getting new upgraded cams so that i can get my car to 8000 RPM?
Do pipers do them for the 2.5L? has any one else done this mod to a 2.5? as i'm thinking of doing this over the winter if possible.
I'm really running out of mods to do to get more power/speed and i can see its only a matter of time until i get a 3L, but the thought of selling my p&j after doing so much to it is painful- even if it's to move up the ladder!

Hi Steve I would imagine the list would
Be :

Full bottom end balance
Gas flow heads
Light flywheel
Cams and springs
Bigger turbos
Better fuel system and injectors
Remapp
Pretty much the same as we have to do to the 3L engine . Tux

Hi simon,
Do you think it really needs a bot end balance? Thats the only thing on the list that bothers me, I dont think i really want to see my car in that many pieces again lol.smash

The higher the revs the more important the balance l would have thought, & if you want 8000 rpm you might have a lot more pieces without it !

Hi steve,
Mine is only making 380 bhp. i spose what i really want is 5-600 bhp and to get there i need a different car.
Yours seems to be making alot of power, must be the most powerful 2.5 out there!
I know that you have the roller bearing turbo's etc. i was just thinking of different route as ive already changed my turbo's once at a big expence and dont want to change again.

if you want 5-600bhp then you need to consider other options first eg box which will be more expensive... no idea if the 2.5 can go beyond 500bhp though, guess steve has the most powerful one out there.

you will need forged pistons so if its already got these then its prob been balanced anyhow.... main thing you need is cams imo.

the extra revs really make my car put the power down IMO...

Hi Andy, Im no expert but i think steve is really pushing the limits of the 2.5 . even if it could get to 5-600 bhp i guess that it would be more stress on it compaired to the 3L.
I dont have forged pistons (so not balanced)and the engine has done a fair amount of miles on this map and all seems well. So if i'm sensible i will stay where i'm at so i dont strain the engine too much.

Not helpful but take the car up to 100mph and grab 2nd and bring the clutch up. You should see more than 8000rpm!!! winkbiggrinbiggrin

The 2.5s do rev a bit better than a standard 3 because the heads breath a bit better for their size, but they were originally designed as a swirl engine with one inlet port bigger than the other. You'll struggle to get them to produce power that high - not many 3s get useful power that high, and those that do are highly modified. Mountune haven't done a Noble 2.5. 8000rpm sounds like a challenge to me.

My initial thought when I first read the post title but I refrained from the obvious laugh

what's the max revs you can do in a standard GTO3? I always change around 6.5k as i have no idea where the "red line" is supposed to be on our dials!

In the Tacho section, the Owners Handbook for my GTO-3 says -

"The reading should never exceed 7500 revolutions per mins, as the M12 has a built in rev-limiter to protect the powertrain."

I didn't think they particularly liked to rev that high though?

Edit - I've seen an in car video on you tube of my car maxing out at 6,900 in 6th at Bruntingthorpe without hitting any limiter.

Mine feels out of puff by about 6k (no more) so always change around there.

std car does tend to peak early so hanging onto the revs is pointless...

Hi steve, just some spec on work thats been done to the purple nob

forged cosworth pistons
longer custom rods
re-profiled valves
lower compression
ported head
bigger injecters
gt 28 turbos
pro alloy intercooler
paddle upgraded clutch

Hi Steve

I'm not far off then! i just need the valves re-profiled, bigger injecters and ported head.
how much would the valves and porting cost roughly?

Cheers
Steve
