Gratey grindy noise

When setting off gently or accelerating gently on/off throttle in low gears (may do it in higher gear but road noise and exhaust noise are higher) there is a gentle rattley/gratey/grindy noise, not very loud, behind me. Sounds to do with the rear right wheel area.

Now i know about the rear hub nuts and not sure if it has the porsche one but there doesnt seem to be any movement there anyway. There is some movement at the join between the right drive shaft and the centre one but not sure how much is normal. Could that be it? Or is there something else to check?

My low profile jack is at my other house so need some wood to drive onto tomorrow to get my normal jack under. Just would like some pointers as of whats most likely.

I`d torque check the hub nuts before you do anything - and if you haven`t jacked up the car I wouldn`t dismiss that as the cause of the problem.

270nm sound right?

Yes 270Nm is the correct torque - you need a big torque wrench! When I put Porsche nuts on my car and torqued them up, I put a small paint line on the nut/shaft so I can see at a glance if anything has moved in future.

Torque wrench clicking is so loud at this time of night!!! No movement there though. May take a video of the movement between to 2 shafts tomorrow if someone could say wether its normal

does the car have the quaife atb fitted ?

sounds like thrust bearing, does it do it when the car is stationary, if you press the clutch does the noise go away?

Nope nothing when stationary and the clutch has no effect on it

yup it has the standard LSD

One of my first threads but turned out to be the exhaust rattling where it passes under the engine. My weird designed one has a bracket there which had broken. Re welded while fitting the new manifolds and tidying up the system and its all gone
