Anybody used EBC Yellowstuff pads ?

Hi
After a recent service on the car my pads are found to be getting low(not bad for 50k of miles).was thinking of getting some of the yellowstuff pads(if they are any good cant argue with £120 for a set all round)
Was wondering if anyone has used them on here with positive results as seems to be a lot of mixed views on them.Browsed r32 forum and scooby forum and they rave about them if they are up to the job on a heavy r32 surely they would be ok on the light noble? Be great to hear any feedback on them and if nobody rates them what pads should I be looking at instead?

Hi Chris , like you have heard mixed reviews , I ran Ferodo DS 2500 first which were fine , then this year I have pagid RS 29 which are awesome !!!!

Hi chris thats what i have on at the moment, when it comes to stopping power they are not very good, if you are wanting them for road use they are ok in as much as you dont get brake squeal and they are fine for everyday driving, but they are soft, if i press the brakes hard they can lock up, one day driving in the mountains after 20 minutes of twisty roads i also started to get brake fade.

Stop being a tight git chris and put the ferodo 2500 on. You will end up,replacing the yellow stuff ones pretty quick as I've heard they wear fast.

Just do fronts one month and rears the next mate! They are about £100 per end.

had Yellowstuff on 200SX, worked a treat. Had greenstuff on MG ZR, worked brillantly.

Also had reds on the 200SX when on another caliper set-up

when i started racing in the MR2 Championship (control regulations meaning you have to run standard calipers and discs) i was advised to use Carbotech Panther XP8 pad which were expensive but supposed to the business.
When i began having my car supported by AW Tracksport they fitted EBC yellowstuff as routine on these cars. i was surprised to hear this but they have ran the championship winning cars for 4 years i went with it! i never once had brake fade throughout the season but lets not forget we are rarely on track for more than 20mins at a time but was certainly braking harder than road and probably trackday use! I also did an hour long stint in a relay race at Silverstone with no problems.
I also thought EBC Yellowstuff were not recommended for road use. The worry with any track focussed pad being used on the road is they only work well when up to temperature, not so good if you have spent 20 miles on the motorway not braking and hit a traffic jam etc.

I went with the Pagid on the Noble as per others when my car was rebuilt as they were known to be good, i had no complaints during road use but haven't made it onto the track yet.

yes they do need warming up, but that is only "first thing in a morning".

On a motorway, there is a micro-scopic element of brake-rub is there not, which is sufficient to stop the pads returning to their frigid state.

Or this is what I was told by reasonably intellectual souls anyway. And always seemed true.

it appears you need to get some temperature in them to get them to work correctly


Tux - how do the DS2500 and the newer pads you use compare. are they suitable for a road car ?

You might well be right, i was commenting more generally on racey pads than with respect to Yellowstuff. I have only ever used yellowstuff on track so can't say for sure on road use.
Having had a quick look on the EBC website it appears they are supposed to be good from cold and aimed at occasional track use so sounds good for a Noble on paper.
I would def go with the opinions of people like Tux, Daddysumo and Funkybmx etc who have spent many a year on road and hitting the track hard...

'fraid I have little experience of those.

EBC predominantly (sp) for upgraded stuff. Ferodo for standard. And have dabbled with Mintex' higher end stuff once or twice.

Interesting you say that James. I have mentioned those pads on Noble threads before and no one has ever picked up on it or been interested.

I have the Carbotech XP8s on my Impreza and have a brand new set sitting, waiting to go on the front of the Noble. YES they are expensive, but on the Impreza they are epic. The pedal feel is sensational and the bite is progressive, plus dont need a whole lot of warming up either.

Time will tell if they are just as good on the Noble.

i might add that what i thought was brake fade could have been the brake fluid overheating, i changed to 5.1 brake fluid after but have not had the chance to test again in extreme conditions since.
So many mixed reviews on these pads, i think they must be getting them mixed up in the factory and painting them the wrong colour

Think im going to go with the 2500 pads.The pagid pads must be the nuts but at close to £450 for a set I cant justify it as I only really do road driving(yes still a tight git james :.
Can anybody recommend a decent supplier for the 2500s best I could find was £112 f £130 r or is that a good price?

My Carbotech XP8s were not a massive amount more than those Ferrodos Chris.

they were £198 for the front pair, and there has been a good ref to them in this thread, plus on my subaru i cannot praise them enough.

The DS2500 were great on the road and they worked fine on track , they did not squeal on road which is the biggest problem with the pagids !!! Although the pagids are awesome on track !!!

Sounds about right. I got mine two years ago for much the same price maybe saved a tenner on the price of the rears.
