Had a slight issue with new dip stick on car. When you have track day sump fitted
which seems to be about 60mm lower than standard, same to oil pick up,is the dipstick longer or
more oil needed to get to same level.
Worked out that oil was over the turbo drain causing a bit off smoke on start up and on boost.

steve, you need the same dip stick and fill to the same level as before otherwise its pointless having the TDS, as its job is to hold more oil and keep the oil pick up submerged in oil all the time.
From what you describe it sounds like i have the same problem with the oil over the turbo drain but haven't been able to find the problem. Mine has been smoking since the TDS was fitted.

on the 3L we def dont extend the dipstick when going from stock to TDS as I did the conversion on mine. but then the position of the return pipes you mention stay in exactly the same place on ours and its just the bottom of the sump thats changed so not sure what changes on the 2.5L sump?

under load the rear return can get oil travel back up to the return from the catch tank and fill the inlet making car smoke... this is why I moved mine to the front of the car when i removed the front turbo.

Thanks for the reply steve.
I measured dipstick when tds was off and im sure oil level was to high, maybe dipstick was wrong
one. but anyway worked out where iol level was just below oil drains, which still leaves
loads above take off pipe. since iv done this dont have any smoke problems at all.
Dont know why drain offs are put so low on sump

i saw a 3.0 engine a few days ago that looked like the dip stick was made of two strips welded together

never taken much notice before - are they all the same ?
