evening all,

Had my first drive of my F3 car on Friday.

was a really good day although the weather did not suit driving an F3 car at all!

We gave the car a good shake down and the only problem we had was an engine misfire when below 5k revs and under 60% throttle. I seems as though the engine is running too rich when on low throttle and lower revs. you expect the engine to run lumpy under 4.5k revs but this was definitely worse than expected.
I spend an entire session trying to keep the throttle above 60% and revs above 4.5k. managed but had a fair few brown trouser moments ha.

I think we hit highs of 2°C and it rained on and off through the day which was an experience. I couldn't get enough heat into the tyres to make them work which i think was a combination of the low ambient temps and not being able to push on in the slow corners due to an engine misfire problem (think lift off over steer but you haven't lifted.

The handling of the car was amazing generally. the feel you get from the car is like nothing else.

Here's a little blend of clips i threw together last night:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vHy5qqSQe4&lis...

been invited to the MSVR press day at Brands on the 14th Feb. lunch, pro-photos and 20 laps of the Indy circuit for free sounds good to me :-). As i am already testing at Brands on the 15th it suits me to.

Again, if anyone wants to come and say hello i will be at Brands on 14th/15th Feb and Snetterton on the 16th Feb.

cheers

James

hey guys,

another little F3 instalment. Last week i was testing the F3 car at Brands and Snetterton, along with an MSVR press day.

mixed success with the car's reliability. lots of small problems really but they kill your track time when you are in organised sessions and so on. We did get chance to do a little bit of set up time though but still plenty of work to do. Massive understeer at Brands was improved and the car was getting a little more balanced by the time we got to Snetterton.
The tracks have been really greasy, its so cold and early on in the year but we are still getting a good feel for the car and i am getting more and more comfortable in the seat, i only stalled it twice at Snetterton i think lol.

here's a little video of some track time. you can see how greasy Snetterton was but this was the only video i got before the car started running on 3 cylinders!!

will be giving the car a little shakedown at Cadwell a week on Sat then out at Snetterton again on the 9th March for teh full day. the car will then be stripped apart and rebuilt.

cheers

I'm sure you will get all the niggles ironed out before the season starts, It must be a massive learning curve from last years MR2 but if ya can drive ya can drive....... If ya know what I'm saying.

Keep us informed of the race dates coz if I aint racing I'll try and get to see ya and give you a cheer on.

If I dont see ya before.......Roll on Spa driving

we softened the anti roll bar on the front. it was way to stiff in our opinion, nearly maxed out! also a slight adjustment to the rake angle which although i don't understand why, can improve front end grip or improve the front to rear balance.

still more work to do though. i think we need more off the front roll bar still. i think we are leaving camber alone for now, if we put too much camber it will be harder to put the power down coming out of the corners. The front toe is zero at the moment which is good as well can tweak that once we have the car more balanced

it's a huge learning curve mate. different braking techniques, total left foot braking, aero grip. but i agree with you, driving is driving... hopefully.

can't wait for Spa, hopefully my on track shakedown at Silverstone will be successful

Glad you liked that mate :-). Flying the flag and all that.

I'm having the car re-painted before the start of the season, I was thinking of changing the colour completely but the current colour scheme is growing on me so I may just get all the bolt on panels, side pods etc, repainted and keep it how it is.

Would be good to meet you, feel free to roll a couple of barrels my way haha.

Cheers
