Right, lets see if you boffins can work this one out smile

See If i can explain this right:

Just had my 2.5 heads ported, the guy doing it noticed that one inlet on every port had a reasonably think layer of oil at the first part of the port behind the valve.

He said this is a common issues when using the secondary butterfly set-up that the mondeo used in the lower inlet manifold.

However, Noble removed these on our engines. This stumped him (and others I have spoke to). All the air comes in at one point and is divided out to all the valves.

Obviously my head has been lifting but this shouldn't have anything to do with this.

Lets see if any of you can come up with something smile

stab in the dark...

Head lifting, pressure getting into head through oil paths, oil stem seals passing oil.

Why only one valve, the same one on all ports?

there is an uneven spread of air flow between the ports (the lengths of the runners for each port are probably not equal on a 2.5)

the port with the lower velocity of air is pulling some oil down the valve guide

can you fit 3.0 heads to a 2.5 ?

were you using a bit of oil ? Any blue smoke from the exhausts ?

Which port has the injector in it, squirting all that fuel in with those nice detergents in it? wink

I would have thought that if anything it would be the other port as the fuel would have cleaned it.

So maybe bothe ports were seeing the oil at some point but the fuel has cleaned one of them?
