However, I just went to the petrol station about a mile away and filled up (takes ages with foam filed tank) and on the way home it started to misfire, when I got into the drive it was almost constantly popping and flames exiting one exhaust pipe. Tried I little revs then 2ft flames appeared so I shut it down. Then found only the rear cat was glowing red!!!! Why? How? What do I do?

Everything looks in place. Maybe a mapping issue, thought the gt28rs turbos would run ok but maybe not.

I had these exact symptoms turned out to be a broken spark plug and broken valve.

Hi Graham , great news on getting her running , odd symptoms , check to make sure you have the injectors connect correctly , also check to make sure the plugs are all in the correct order too , sounds like a fueling / spark issue . Tux

Checked all the plugs and coils etc and all are ok, Going to send the ecu to Jetstream to get a new map put on it and keep checking other things in the meantime.

Might try get the cat off to look for damage but think it's just fuel flooding through.

Is it possible that with two pumps and the single return hose and the restriction of having foam in the tank causes the fuel pressure in the rail to increase so much it just overfuels madly when the car gets hot???

Err, was about to Remove the ecu and notices the negative battery terminal was not tight. doh!

Could this bad earth have caused the over fueling??

Edit, nope, now it won't start at all.

Also found the two lower fuses on the bulkhead popped and replaced them but still not starting, Ecu removed now to send off for a check up/new map. If it's not ecu then It must be the coils.

It must have blown a fuse and is why it wont start now
I think Kevin is running a tank with baffled foam and he has not reported any problems with fuel return...
A dodgy oxygen sensor can definately make it over fuel...but generally shows up more at low rpm..if an injector is clogged or dodgy this can drip fuel and cause pops and bangs..
Have you checked the fuel pressure yet?
Any chance you could have got a cable mixed up on an injector?

I think it will need to go for diagnstics...but just want to try and put soem ideas forward for you to check in the meantime,,as i know how annoying these things can be until you find the cause..

Chris,

Replaced the two blown fuses and still won't start so removed the Ecu to send to Jetstream. I'll check the coils but otherwise the spark plugs are all fine and the injectors have not been unplugged since the last time I had the car running on t28s. (already on the bigger injectors)

The car did run fine for 10 minutes so I think the bad earth blew the fuses, potentially damaged the ecu/coils.

I'm running all new fuel pumps and two sets of new fuel filters and the injectors were not out of the engine so they shouldn't have dirt in them.

Hi Graham,

If the fuses split the power to different coils then thats why the cat overheated, you were getting fuel delivery but no spark on certain cylinders. The fuel gets to the cat and ignites causing the glow.
You might have an overvoltage issue causing the fuses / ECU problem although the loose battery lead may have caused it. Make sure you check the alternator output when it is running again.

Hi Dave,

That's what I hoped, however fuses replaced and still not starting. There must be something else.

I don't suppose you checked what was missing (spark / injection / fuel delivery) before you sent off the ECU? Might give more info as to what could be wrong.
