I haven't totally convinced myself yet but I'm having an inclination to move over to a GT3.

I've spent a small fortune on my 3R replacing all the weak areas, fitting pro-alloy everywhere, new floor, tunnel mod, wiring upgrades, oil cooler, turbo boost, machined uprights with full geo setup, new manifolds, towing eyes, carbon fibre front spoiler, carbon infills, carbon cover mirrors and wing end plates, uprated grooved disk all round, new hubs and bearings, pro-tech springs, Speedline alloys(when they arrive) and not to mention the rather expensive Tuxman Racing/Jetstream gear linkage system.

I've yet to experience a flawless track day as something always lets me down. Yes they are teething troubles and eventually things will settle but I'm not sure I have the time or patience!

I'm starting to think the Noble just isn't for me and perhaps I need something more of a "turnkey" solution.

Nissan GT-R would be my choice.

Why do you say this is expensive?

Expensive in the sense of the biggest chunk of my most recent bill. Why do you ask?

I have some sympathy with this. The lack of reliability is frustrating, however I fear that through a move to a more "sensible" car you'd lose the sense of individuality, the raw pace (much faster than a GT3) and the sense of achievement you get when it actually does work.

I'm clinging to the hope that there is a set-up that results in consistent reliability. Worth remembering that the cost of maintenance of a Noble is unlikely to be higher than the cost of depreciation on an equally capable German/Italian equivalent.

Ah right I see. I'm talking about the overall cost of the linkage system, including gear selector, gear knob, modified gear surround, replacement rods(cables) plus all of the installation time.

I wasn't aware that anybody else did the system but not that that matters now, the money is spent.

Sometimes i have the same thoughts but i always put the thoughts behind me as i know id have to go through the same process of elimination when the porsche felt slow and needed upgrading.

I'm a copy cat, took the ideas and bearings shown on the forum and got the gear linkage made by the fabrication part of my work, all in it cost £90 to do the linkage for my car. smile

fair play if you have the inclination and time to do it mate.

This post wasn't intended to be a bashing of the price of things, I was happy to pay what I paid for the linkage (although I'll be much happier once all the teething troubles are ironed out).

The GT3 idea has come to me from other mates who come to track days with me, enjoy the day and leave with their cars fully intact. Problem free. I've yet to achieve this with my Noble. Irrespective of power or speed ratings.

Very true Granty, there was a mob of experienced breakdown specialists even the AA couldn't afford at hand to help me in the Visitors car park.

Many thanks to them too, bet the Porsche owners wouldn't be so handy in the same situation!

I just sold a 4.7 Vantage and have had an R8 V8 coupe for the last 3 weeks. Have to say - its absolutely fantastic. Not everyones cup of tea looks wise but compared to many other cars I've owned and driven, (Noble of course is exempted) this one is the best by some margin. I loved my Noble with a passion, but like you, was always let down on trackdays and eventually got fed up with the endless niggles and a 3 hour round trip to the dealer.

I'm not seeing the funny side to this one just a stack of cash being ploughed into a car that I won't be letting go for standard money :-)

Already experienced how poor the V8 Vantage is. The Audi R8 is a good option if not slightly out of what I was thinking of paying.

Test a good GTR with the stage one upgrade. If you can live with the looks, nothing comes close vfm.
Edit : here's a good example:

I was completely underwhelmed by both the vantage and the R8 (no slur intended) however I tried a R8 V10 after listening to someone on here, and I have to say it felt at least as good as my previous f430 did and a comparable sound track to boot, it definately has enough accessible ponies, could be my next stop.

ETS Still pricey at the mo.
