Fuel pump options other than the 044?

I'm in the process of upgrading a 3r and I'm aiming for 450bhp ish. I want a fuel pump that's capable of 450-500 bhp and want to fit a single pump rather than a dual pump setup. The 044 sounds horrible so that's why I want something else and I was wondering if anyone can suggest another pump? What power is the standard M400 pump good for? (I would search but it's not been working for ages)

Mine's running a fraction under 450 with the M400 pump.

PS but it's noisy too!

run two stock pumps - there must be plenty of them about with everyone upgrading

Thanks, to be honest it's just the noise that I'm trying to avoid. It's hard enough getting my mrs in the car without giving her something else to moan about.

Thought of that but was worried about what would happen if one packed in or blew a fuse, especially on a trackday?

i guess that is the advantage of a noisy one - you can hear if it fails


you should be able to wire them to the same fuse so if the fuse goes they both stop and the engine is safe

Cheers adrian, there's some tasty stuff on that website! What pump do you run on your car?

Gadge I'll look into doing it that way im sure it must be possible to do it safely, would just be nicer to get one pump with a high flow rate and doesnt sound like a bees nest under the clam.

An 044 but I keep looking at these and thinking it is a better but more expensive solution.

I agree, but there's no way of telling how noisy a pump is until you get it in your car. It's a shame the fuel pump has to be mounted in the side pod, if it could go further back I doubt you'd hear it at all.

I looked long and hard at this type of pump at Christmas as I had one similar fitted on my Ultima , still quite noisy and very expensive and I was advised you need a electronic speed controller .
In the end chickened out and went the twin 044 but let us know how you get on if you decide to go that route . Tux

I know you said you don't want two pumps and you also don't want the 044 either buuuuuuut......

....... Why don't you keep your standard pump and feed it into an 044? That way it'll be quieter than one on its own and you can pretty much mount it wherever you fancy.

I have an Aeromotive A1000 pump running my FI, it's not as noisey as a 0044 but still has the Buzz.
Apparently 0044's are quieter when fed via another high volume low pressure pump as it is the "suck" effect that causes it to buzz so loudly.

Tux, if you run two 044's the way you have done do they run quieter? I know what you guys are saying about running two inline pumps and ive read that on the bosch website, maybe that way you could keep the standard one and fit the 044 closer to the fpr where it can't be heard from inside the car? Although I may be talking rubbish as I'm far from an expert at this.

I have one of those on the shelf... Nice but noisier tham 2 044s and more expensive.

Get the 044 installed right and it won't be noisy... Means modding the tank etc.

Yep .. I agree with Andy as above. My 2 044's corectly plumbed in are quieter than my original single 044 on standard plumbing.
I think a single 044 done properly might suprise you..

keep the stock one and have it feed an 044... the stock one will flow enough when its not delivering pressure (please check specs though).

044's hate to stuck... just slap an 055 in place of the stock pump and they suck hence they are noisy!

NOTHING beats a properly installed 044 for reliability.

of cause if you fancy buying my A1000 instead then feel free as its just collecting dust lol.

Quite a few Focus rs people are using this pump for over 400bhp reliably may be worth considering & worth a try at the price

Ive put some sound insulation round mine, bought from e bay and you hardly hear it now, just a slight buzz
