Door Opening Too Far

Hi All,

Quick query, passenger door is opening too far. Had a quick look but have limited space to investigate properly tonight, so couldn't see anything obvious. Do the Nobles have a standard door check strap setup, or does anybody know what stops the door opening too far?

Thats what i'm worried about, so thought i'd best take a look...Did you have the same problem?

ive got the same problem. Left a nice big mark in my drivers door..

The way I sorted mine was to move the cover / rear of front wheel arch panel / lower A panel thingy outwards slightly on the lower locating pins and upper bolts. A pain to do but it did work...

Previous owner of my car had left a vertical white mark on both my doors. The one buffed out completely, the other has still got a slight vertical depression but you'd have to look for it.

mine had a mark on the drivers door when i bought it.polished it out and just open the door carefuly now.

Isn't that panel bonded on, at least at the top? Hoping to have a proper look today. Seems to be a common problem then! Will report back!

Yes it is, but only with sealant.

Undo the 3 allen headed bolts at the top, then with the door open slit through the sealant with a longish flexible blade from rear side, then pull the panel up to realease the pins (like dowels) that secure it at the bottom.

Don't strain the side repeater cable

Not actually done it myself yet, so let us know how easy it is!

Mine has a white mark on the driver's door. I am careful when i open it, but just haven't got around to buffing it out.

It is very easy to remove the side panel (cant really call them wings). Mine has actually gone through the paint so will need some work

i tried to remove the side pannel once to cut holes in it. But i had to give up as atleast one of the fixings is partialy hidden and couldnt get on it.

Good point, but on mine and many others I have lookes at , the top door hinge plate is already is far inboard as it can go.
My drivers door is outboard by around 5 to 10 mm but no more adjustment is available without an angle grinder....

But there are only the 3 Allen headed bolts clustered together at the very top front of the panel (under where the front clam sits when shut) and they are all completely accessible....

You must have been trying to undo something unrelated??

The a panel sits of 2 locating pins , and at the top it has 2 allen key fixings, but also in some cases i have seem scres going through from the wheel arch side and into the door pillar, these are hidden by the L shaped spash guard in the wheel arch..but this is also easily removed..there may be a bit of low grade sealant but they come straight off..

My doors were also on there furthest inward adjustment, so seems like a common thing, but in my case when they are fully open there was a decent clearance from the A panel..



In steves case no adjustment was left on the door, but please note you would look at adjusting the door first as was Steves first port of call..it also helps for the door and window to seal better, as the door springs back off the rubbers, you will know when you haver the doors set up correctly as it will meety resistence about 1cm away from closing you will then need to apply some force for it to softly click onto the lock locator, it also gives a better solid feel to closing the door with a better noise and stops water..


While on wit alignment, doors drop over time, to adjust this simply loosen the top two bolts on the door pillar, there are captive nuts on the other side, lift the door a bit more than is required, you will see the hinge slide forward as the door lifts, just tighten the bolts again and job done, this takes literally 1 minute to sort...
also on the top hinge there is a single rotating pin, this came loose over time with mer and was allowing additional movement which could be the cause of the door hitting the A panel, i took it out and replaced with a nut and bolts which gets rid of the unwanted play..

Took mine to a certain place that rhymes with sole tally (remember previous thread of NO bad mouthing!) and they charged me about £100 to do almost nothing to solve the problem!

All you need is a mate, a socket set and a copy of the Noble manual! nowhere near £100 worth of work
