Yes if you don't blast it down bumpy roads, and traffic light grandprix it a lot.

Yeah bit I mean bumpy enough to keep jumping the rears off the ground. It's that shock that kills the box. In some ways a weak clutch will save the box.

Lastly 500bhp isn't relevant it's the torque figure that counts. I run 430lbs/ft. It's about the limit.

Phil's right bumpy surfaces will kill it but it's also heat that kills the gears , I've stripped 2 boxes and both had signs of heat !!! 5th gear seems to fail .

Off course and will want as many Torques as possible so no point in short cutting on the gear box side even if I don't track it

500 500 500 and lots of torques, absolutely no more!

That's in a 6 speed box right Simon? I understand the weak link in the 5 speeder is 3rd and the 6 speeder is 5th.

I just managed to break a 5 speed with standard power. Diff had enough and took the box housing with it.

If you're looking for more power (500bhp and beyond) then it would be sensible to make the gearbox as good as it can be.

You want to send it to CTS (the Gearboxman) for shot peen and polish, steel caged bearings etc and add cooler unions. This along with an uprated clutch should be more than reliable for 500bhp.

Im having exactly that done at the moment. Can't wait to get it all back!

realistically over 430ftlb you need an upgraded clutch anyhow... the most important part of beefing up the box is having cooling, decent suspension that keeps the tyres in contact with ground is also a must (too hard on road and car will skip over bumps and break it).
its an expensive job as the engine and box have to come out together and thats 2 days work alone.
