M600 vs R8 V10 vs Gallardo Superleggera

I feel I am on a little mission to big up the Noble, I must confess, but it is not hard to be amazed at the car.

Maybe a repost, I don't really care, but the Top Gear USA guys did a drag race with the Noble, the Audi and the Superleggera...

Nice video, and great that they are praising the Noble so much.

But every day of the week and twice on Sundays i'd have that Superleggera.

So the Superleggara is a long way ahead, and is only passed by the M600 after 16 seconds (i.e. well well above legal road speed), and you could buy a GT-R for the price difference.

Its all about traction off the line. Paddleshift vs Manual.

I'd still take the Noble, if only because of the manual gearbox. The other cars make it too easy.

Besides, I think I have a personal problem with Ferrari's and Lamborghini's.

Everytime I see one I think of Eurotrash over tanned mediterranean types with white jeans and a cashmere sweater draped over their shoulders. I remember being in Milan last year and the posing and peacock-like behaviour of people there made me laugh out loud - some of the worst were the police! The whole italian, passion, bella machina, scuderia, look-at-my-red-baseball-cap, tifosi, pasta carbonara and a glass of chianti thing turns me right off. All that shrieking drama, like some mad gesticulating italian on amphetamines, just looks daft to me. A bit, well, embarrassing.

I was in Fiuggi, a spa town near Rome for a week last autumn too. It was the first time I saw a 458 up close. Parked up in the piazza it looked , well, like a Ferrari. But to be honest the italian-from-central-casting driving it looked like a bit of a berk to me. I realised then, that I simply don't like Italian cars very much - although I find the Maserati Grand Turismo quite agreeable.

When I see the Noble I think of plucky brits who don't make a fuss and don't take any nonsense. Its the kind of car a Spitfire pilot would choose if it were possible.

And the McLaren? Thats the kind of car a current RAF Typhoon pilot would buy, or an obsessive compulsive architect. I find I engage with the Noble and McLaren in a way I simply cannot with a Ferrari or Lamborghini.

Thats why these cars exist of course, to give us choices.

I think I am instinctively contrarian. If that means driving a car only a few dozen people choose over a few thousand , that's fine by me. I find I often deliberately choose the road less travelled.

So what does the only gay in the village which likes the idea of strutting one's stuff, but is also strangely attracted to RAF Typhoon fighter pilots meant to do??????

Perhaps there is only one way to find out......

Avoid cliche.

A Lamborghini or a Ferrari is the epitome of cliche. You've got Clarkson shouting "Powerrrr..", men who sold their carpet warehouse outside Dudley running off with their secretary in a Ferrari as they have their mid life crisis, italian playboys strutting like peacocks, Arab Princes painting them blue and getting them clamped outside Harrods and Premiership footballers crashing them on the lanes around Cheshire. It is all cliche.

Get a Noble M600, or maybe ( just ) the McLaren ( provided you are careful about the colour ) and you become more enigmatic and instantly more interesting !

I think you may be beyond hope in the taste stakes.

The only salvation is maybe, just maybe, you avoid stereotyping by having your F430 in a dark grey and then steadfastly refuse to clean it until it gets a characterful patina of age and use. Then it will look like some kind of NATO style stealth attack vehicle or maybe one of those prototypes the test drivers haul around the nurburgring. It also tells the world that you are too busy to have the car cleaned and that you just don't care. The car would then be much, much cooler and more enigmatic than the immaculate red 430 Spider the guy with the carpet warehouse uses to drive his mistress to the tanning salon.

And RAF pilots will dig it too.

the noble is so beyond my ham fisted talent i wouldn't even get in one if a guy as massively skilled as tanner can loose it and poop himself i am going to die

id take the R8, looks so much better than the other 2 imo and more than fast enough

Gallardo Spyder deffo my next car.... just dont know how much longer I can resist....

My friend has a lp570-4, they really handle well, not as good as the noble as would be expected, overall very fun cars, they grip, very fizzy, noise is great, but you can tell they are Audi build quality.
That sup a leggera though all beefed up, a big rear wing really suits that car, it looks damn good and can leave everything short of a Turbo s standing still at the lights, love it.
But still 9k just for a cltuch actuator. ... 15k fitted with new clutchbplate.. 20k by the time they finish ripping you off....you have to own one and sell it on before the cost of ownership taints the experience..
