Having just done a lot of work on my gto3 including complete new floor, carpets, fuel pump, pro alloy ic/ header tank/oil breather/hard pipes and exhaust. I would Like to have it remapped but worried the gear box won't allow me to reach the power I would like. Should I have it out and get that done or change to a 3r instead...I quite like mine without leather though and the body work is mint.

I'd say the cost on both options would be similar so I'd go for a 3R

Take it you have the standard five speed? Either a six speed upgrade (that you'll want strengthened anyway) or get your 5-speed box rebuilt & strengthened with cooling. Will work out cheaper than changing I reckon, unless you get a 3R with the mods already of course.simonx50 said:

You have IC, exhaust, fuel pump...These upgrades will not produce too much power on a remap, maybe get you to circa 390lb/ft torque and 420bhp
What sort of power are you after?
Imo take off the gearbox and get it upgraded, see what Bernie can do for you, also i would recommend gearbox oil additive, it really does work and it reduces friction greatly, while your at it upgrade clutch or put a new AP, its all going to be worth it, a 420bhp Noble when running properly feels very nice compared to stock.
Did the manifolds not need replacing?
Did you adjust the cam timing?

A few 3R's had alcantara rather than leather if that's your preference, and you can always have the seats retrimmed. However, if you've done so much to your 3, a move to a 3R might not seem worthwhile, especially if you have to go through the same process again?

420 sounds about right...manifolds have been done also. These upgrades will not produce too much power on a remap, maybe get you to circa 390lb/ft torque and 420bhp

Just weighing up costs.
I haven't yet seen a 3r I like yet an m400 would be nice but the price of those seems to have gone up lately

"depends" but for a completely new box with the cooling unions plus shot-peened/superfinished gears plus all uprated bearings etc and a new LSD it was about £1700. You'd need to factor in the cost of labour for swapping the boxes over plus the oil cooler and fitting. Not cheap all-in. Give CTS a call for a quote, just don't expect the new box back quick or any kind of communication that passes for customer service. http://www.gearboxman.co.uk/Hi Simon , you have done most of the upgrades which you will have to do if you buy another , 5 speed box will cope with 500 bhp and 420 lbft once upgraded along with a clutch so no need to go the 6 speed route unless you want over 500 bhp !
I would also upgrade the gear shift while you are at it as there is big gains to be had there .

What costs do you reckon for all that...clutch,strengthen,gear shift,LSD,cooler.I would also upgrade the gear shift while you are at it as there is big gains to be had there .
