2 criteria:
1 how much do you value your head?
2. Make sure it fits well.
One make will suit one person but perhaps not another. So it's difficult to go by brand. A few weeks ago at Spa, a passenger in a car that was shunted off the circuit was saved from serious head injury by a top flight helmet. Hence point 1- don't be tempted to buy cheap thinking it won't happen to me.

As in my post above - fit is more important than brand. However, top flight brands include Sparco, Arai, Bell, OMP, Peltor etc . Full face is probably better than open face. Go to a good stockist and try them on. Do not buy untried over the internet. Anything under £200 probably isn't worth buying. If you're not going to use it much, just hire one for the day! I'm not bringing my helmet, just hiring one. Otherwise it will be a very uncomfortable journey for my passenger having to sit with it on his legs or at his feet.

As rob say buy one that's comforatable and fits... I use my bike crash helmets so worth going to your local motorbike shop... They may have some discounted bargains in there.
Don't buy cheap helmets though, did that when I started biking years ago, wore it once and went and bought one 4 times the money next day even though I couldn't afford it... Comfort of you head is very important when driving on track.

You must have a very small head or short legs mate. My 3R seats don't allow for any rooms between rear shelf and the back of the seats to sit a helmet.As rob say buy one that's comforatable and fits... I just pull the seat forward a couple of clicks, put the helmet on the rear shelf behind the headrest with the open bottom of the helmet facing the back of the headrest, then gently push the seat back. The headrest goes slightly in the helmet and holds it securely against the roll cage. Helmet is in a cloth bag, so no problem if it touches rear window. Because it's behind the headrest you don't lose much rear visibility, and can carry one helmet behind each seat. Helmets are both full-face ones.Scooby P1 said:

In terms of helmet quality, mine is far from sexy. Mine is the same open faced one i got as a 13 year old to drive my quad bike. It's pretty ropey but does the job.....

given the massive hard roll cages around you id say its as important for the helmet to be tip top as if you were rideing a motorbike.
I've rolled a car on track when i had brake failure... helmet saved my life as you could see my entire head out of the window as it rolled (it was caught on video & pics published in revs mag lol), Id be dead if the helmet had been sub standard!
I came off my quad bike aged 17 in a wheat field having been going flat out across the field and then hit a 1 foot high plough furrow between fields. I hit the deck and the quad did a somersault over my head and landed on its back end then onto its wheels about 4 foot away from my head. (my leg and hip took most of the force of hitting the deck at 45mph!)
I was not wearing my helmet! So i guess it still has its job to do.....
