still confused about turbos!!!

apart from the turbos playing " we want to gas the car behind game" im realy happy with the power and driveability of my 400BHP 2.5 liter and i tend to drive it on a daily basis weather permiting!!
But Dont know wether to get original turbos refurbished or go for an upgrade but dont want to change turbos then have to upgrade other bits and pieces and end up with something lumpy and awkward to drive..
Are the standard turbos water and oil cooled ?
Help!!! please
These standard T22 turbos have only lasted 6000 miles is that common when running 1 bar through them?

What exactly is wrong with your turbos?

If I were you as I'm in the same position (turbos are ok atthe moment though) I would get the Gts.

The 2.5 doesn't like lots of boost as I understand it the head gasket can be a week link.

I would upgrade to the GTs so you can get the Same power or a bit more for less boost.

If you try to go to 450 then clutch will become an issue (assuming yours is already upgraded but not the super dooper upgraded one)

Burning oil, and smoking on over run, and when your heavy footed tends to smoke sometimes more than others!!
thought it might be sump overfilled with oil at 1st but Austec up in Crawley reckon its the turbos and quoted me £1200 plus vat for turbo refurb or should i fit some diffrent ones?

im guessing they have checked the oil restrictors to the turbos are fitted.

your turbos should last longer that 6k!

you can almost buy new turbos for that. ive refubed turbos on my car before and they didnt last very long. i will be buying new rollerbearing turbos over the winter. cant remeber what model they are but will try find out today. steveobes has them on his car.

Yes, £1200 + vat is a bit OTT!

Universal quote £275/turbo for a basic refurb - plus any additional parts if the turbos need more than just the standard refresh.

Mine had cracked exhaust housing when universal inspected them so the original quote was a fair bit out. Just something to bare in mind.

New turbos (The GTs that the 2.5 should have) are about 1k each.

Anyone with the GT turbos, whats the transiant responce like (ie. rolling into the throtle)? I would guess they 'feel' much faster spooling in this area?

as said above refurb could cost up to £450 per turbo.

can you fit the GT turbos without upgrading lots of other bits ,is it a straight swop like for like?
And can anybody recomend somebody in the south east, for looking after my toy im in the Hastings area

Graham said to me that the GTs have the 3.0ltr flange, which means changing the flange on the 2.5 exhaust on the down pipes.
