Having just been to Rockingham and Silverstone its clear the car needs an anti-roll bar on track. What have people done regards ARB's ??

You may be better of with some adjustable suspension so you can stiffen it up on track. Do thinnk the like of Tuxman use a arb and he has a track weapon

A Touring car driver drove my car at Silverstone and he's convinced the ARB is necessary before the dampers. The front of the car needs stability, not just damping rate.

It def handles better with one than without, the front digs in to much on turn in without, I have made mine adjustable and have it set soft to med, but then you need a little extra front camber to help the understeer , Dave and Mat at Jetstreem fitted my adjustable wishbones set up and then set the car up running with a little more camber, the car turn in planted and is now pointy which I like means you can get on the power earlierbiggrin

Hi Rich , its a interesting debate anti roll bars , I've no idea wether then can improve the handling but there is alot that can be done from were you are at the moment , tyres , suspension geometry , dampers and springs can all make a big difference , be carefull comparing to a M400 they run much harder springs and dampers along with different geometry , Craig's car runs different rear lower wishbones and different front geometry than std as well .

Also fitting roll bars can also effect on road handling , following with interest to see what you can find out .

Thanks Tux, Dave Pinkney a touring car driver took my M12 out at Silverstone. He convinced me it needs a front ARB. An adjustable bar that can be adjusted for different tires and damper settings.

I've never been in a Noble driven like that! He was overtaking Ferrari racing teams
, Porsche GT2's , SLS Merc racing car... Phenomenal.
However the front end handling was especially suspect.

He loved the power but said get an ARB and adjustable camber.

Ps he set the front tire pressure to 35 psi warm!! It made the car so much better (29 psi rear)
The car was better balanced, I was amazed.

It was actually a lot more balanced, I couldn't believe it myself. That was with the the tires hot.

I am trying to understand the 35 psi. Do you think it pushed the contact patch to the outside of the tyre?

Tux did you adjust the camber on the front of yours?

I think 18psi was just too low, it felt like the front was rolling one the tire walls.

Tyre pressure will depend on a number of things including wall stiffness, Corsas were good for 18 - 20 on the front as they had a solid wall, very unforgiving in the wet though.
My M400 had adjustable camber and was all the better for it however I felt it was better on road without the ARB fitted.

Just because an ex touring car driver said your car needs this and needs that doesn't mean it does. Its all subjective and personal opinion.
I would spend money on tyres and suspension and then see if you need a roll bar after that work is done.

Hi Rich , interesting stuff , what Tyres are you running ? what did he say needs improving ? How will fitting an ARB on the front help ? Just need to understand his logic on why he feels you need one fitting .
I wonder why Lee did not fit ARB as std to all the cars ,

Yes I run + 2degrees camber front and rear , with a 50mm wider rear stance .

I don't know why do many people disagree with ARB's,

They were put on the M400 as it was the track going version of the M12 (apparently) and the trick of carrying lots of speed through corners is having a stable, predictable car that doesn't roll around.

The cars roll too much without them, yes fitting adjustable shocks will help cure that if your a whizz with suspension set-up (I'm not) There's also an increased risk of getting the wrong set up and binning it into a barrier.

I also think it's bullst that M400 spring rates are too hard for road, my car is the best car I've ever had for absorbing bumps and taking pothole hits, Lots of people comment on its smooth ride!

This is no way a criticism of drivers as they are all good just what my arse felt in the seat from the cars as I passengered in car with ARB's and without ARB's all at Spa. The ARB cars are more stable, feel more predictable and safer through Eau rouge anyway lol.

The right tyres are important too but I think you'll get a faster lap in the same car with an ARB fitted regardless of suspension choice.

So he pretty much doubled the psi. Ex BTCC or not that's madness on a light car. What tyres do you run?

my car runs m400 suspension - what are the correct tyre pressures for the m400 ?

Cold on the road I run.22psi rear 20psi front.
On track 20psi rear. 18psi front.

It also depends on the ambient temp outside, the colder it is the more pressure I will add,
If its hot, I will reduce it.

The car drives very well even on bumpy roads, it's always well planted.

What tyres though?

Normal road tyres, or stiff sidewall track tyres?
