Noise from engine bay ?

Hi,

Dont know if any of you can help recently my car (2.5) has started to make a squeal from somewhere around the belt and alternator area.First it started as a squeal on start up and once warmed up everything was ok.
Now it has become a constant noise but especially(loud) when accelarating I sprayed wd40 over the pulleys that I can see but it has made no difference and in fact I think it has made it worse.Any of you guys got an idea what it could be and where I should be looking?

I would say it just need a new belt. Also possibly where is goes over the air con pulley it can be in 2 positions. I find if on one position it will squeal the other it won't.

Could also be what happend to me recently where the the tensioner bit, the spring inside had snapped and they're was very lil tension.

My car also has done this for a while, more so when cold and not used for a while. Try spraying the belt/pulleys with silicon lubricant instead of wd40, seems to work for me.

Hope your good well hopefully it wont be the belt as the alternator and belt were replaced a year ago.I will try Pauls idea first and if i get no joy with that then it may be a new pulley/belt needed or could be something else ?

Same on mine 2.5! after changing position in 2 years no one squeal.

Also if the pulleys get wet, a fine layer of rust can from, and make the pulleys squeak.

Hi Chris, this is the time of year for squeaky belts :-) Good suggestions above + try with the a/c on and then off for a while and see if there's a difference.

If no good then could some Micky Mouses be using your Nob as their winter abode?!

Belt dressing spray is better than WD40/Silicone as it's deigned for the job but mine kept coming back until the belt was replaced.

Do any of you guys have a part number for the belt?.Is it a job a diy er could do ?.I will get a belt and spray when out today

My mate has told me how to do it so hopefully I will get it done over the next few days and no more squealing .

Changing belt is easy, changed mine earlier this year and it still sqeals a bit. Make sure you get a Gates belt, think they're about £12

Car all sorted now.Bought a new belt 6pk 1708 on the noble parts page and blow me was way too much slack in it.Endud up with a 6pk 1693 and now the car runs fine thanks for everybodys help on here.
