fortunately I had a change of clothes in the car!

30mins later Jetstream appear to recover the car and another 30mins later a new wishbone was on and car was back on its wheels ready for a shakedown round the track.

Its a clean break so unlikely to have occured on track as there was snow, water and salt all over the car from spa last week which would have quickly rushed any fresh metal exposed, no corrosion around any of the break, not entirely on a weld either!
its not been heard of before by anyone I have spoken to or Jetstream... so I wouldn't start panicking that others are going to have the same issue.
having seen the 200meter skid marks its amazing I didnt end up in the ditch/hedge! make no mistake I have been extremelly lucky today, I'm doing the lottery later

I've often thought that they look poor and are very prone to rust because of the design, especially the bottom arms. I know this wasn't down to corrosion Andy but for anyone that's had them off the car will realise how lightweight they seem.
I wouldn't of thought that a nice new set of stainless with built in adjustment would cost that much if there were a few being made !!

Looking at the picture, i'm going to hazzard a guess that the failure is a fatigue bending load failure caused by miss-aligned chassis lugs or distorted wishbone!
The fact that the now "redundant" rear bar of the snapped top wishbone has sprung away from the front section, combined with the un-equal wedge angle that looks to be present in the front attachment bush. If it were mine i'd be stripping that down for a further investigation!

thats a good guess considering the picture... however whats not clear in the pictures is that the still attached part of the wishbone has been heavily bent during the incident, I was traveling briskly and it occurred as soon as I applied the brake, the wheel was thrust forward and only the bodywork prevented it from being much worse... I can't quite make it out from the pic, but is there a drilled hole that a crack has propogated from? Certainly not a major corrosion failure, and the failure zone doesn't look like it has fretted much begore failure. I wondered about the bending stress failure because that is a slightly odd place for the tube to fail, except due to pure overload (which is unlikely in anything but a major impact scenario)?
