After chatting to tuxman about the front wheel spindles I now realise how bad they are and how they can be a week point on the noble. So a few weeks back I stripped the front end to fit my grooved discs as I had major brake judder on track and took a hub and standard spindle to an engineering company and asked them to design and make me a pair in stainless, but with a proper spline to fit inside the hub. I think he's looking at making them in 316 stainless but I'll find out for definite. They've given me a price of £200 a pair if I order 10 so I thought I'd ask on here if anyones interested in some? The £200 is for a pair of spindles for a six speed car because of the speed sensor on the front wheel, a pair for a five speed car should be £170 as there's a lot less machining and a little less material. I think porsche hub nuts could also be fitted as an extra bit of safety?
Let me know what you think and if there's enough interest I'll get the ball rolling.

Jason.

That's what I like to see, straight to the point. biggrin

Bondy I dont have any pics sorry, and my car is all bolted back together as I knew it would be a while for the spindles to be made. The spindle is like a bolt, it goes through the hub and holds it all together. I think there's a video on youtube somewhere of one breaking on a trackday.

Thanks simon, I'll also be fitting a pair of those hubs, bearings and boxter hub nuts. My noble front hubs are extremely rusty I cant wait to get rid of them.

Number one cause of brake judder is not disc but runout on the hubs , skimming on the car helps but new hubs bearings and spindles is the best way forward , as we chase more drip the spindles have to take the load , if you take them apart you will see what I mean !!!!!

That doesn't make sense, unless you have just rewritten the laws of physics, the only force on the spindle is a moment,

The spindle is still a lot better than Nobles nut and bolt arrangement

I looked into a set of these also from tuxman's supplier, they didn't have many sets left and the cost was around £400 if I remember correct so if these are the same the price sounds good, will they come with the hub nuts?

I have the USA ones and they are really well made and at a good price imo. I sent mine for nitriding which gave them a tougher finish.
£200 sounds too cheap to me with splines ect. Its also bit of a worry that Your engineering shop suggested 316 stainless steel. This is not the right material for this application so please do not let him use it or you will all be loosing wheels. 316 cracks under shock I see it most weeks. Can I suggest if you really want a stainless use 431. I personally would use en24t or en36. One of my customers is Rolls Royce, I make components in their diff/axle assembly so a similar application. They only use 36 or 24t as above and all their parts are tried and tested.
If you need anymore info I'll be happy to help but I have too much work on to actually make them. My price would have been much higher than that anyway.
Ps be careful getting parts made that could kill somebody if they failed, automotive parts need different insurances that most people don't have!

I have the american ones. They were $400, around £250 so not too bad.
They are of a very high quality. Still available I think.

Hi lockey74, I agree totally that these are important components on the car and need to be safe and its the only thing that worries me doing a group buy. I may be wrong with the grade of stainless but he did explain to me how it needs to be something that has a tendency to flex rather than fracture, he also said the spindles will be certified. They are busy making components for F1 and indy car and that's why I chose them. I appreciate your input and will discuss your points with him as the main reason for doing this is to make the car safer, not dangerous.
