Word of caution, pro alloy catch tank

Had my car serviced and the catch tank was found to be almost blocked. There is no way of removing the innards so was flushed using a degreaser. Anyone else had this or checked their condition?? Mine has been on for about two years or so.

I've had my one on about 2 years also and its been on my mind to remove and flush it clean, expecting it to be quite full.

What was blocked? Doesn't it drain back to the sump?

I would assume water vapour/oil sludge, i use a separate catch tank to stop this, it always has water in it

Does the catch tank breather pipe just vent to open air unfiltered?

Yeah it vents to atmosphere unfiltered,

I just removed my tank and there was only a small coating of sludge inside, used some degreaser and then the garden hose to flush it all out.

Yes it should be cleaned with the yearly service.

i suggest you take it off and flush it out with white spirit / petrol / brake cleaner

do it when you service it

This, mine had a build up of sludge, will be doing this as part of the service. I would suggest that anyone getting their car serviced to get them to check this.

Ben from SWLC was talking to me about this one they do, has a removable innard for easier cleaning.

Bit of bullst there I feel, like any car the white sludge is probably caused by poodling around town, but once things get warmed up properly it will evaporate
