A great replacement for the Noble

Ever wondered what Tuxmans hedge cutters were all about?? This is a great car and a fine way to spend 45mins, hope you enjoy:

I have owned the blue car in the video (AP07LOS) from new and it is indeed an awesome piece of kit.
That footage is a few years old now and was filmed in 2008 for Top Gear. Amusingly we broke the lap record on a warm up lap on cold tyres and road geo setup but they made an excuse that due to time constraints we wouldn't be able to do a proper lap. I am confident that we could have knocked maybe another second and a half off the time!
Having recently joined the Noble club (I have an early 3R now) I can see similarities between both cars.
The Apollo is like an M12 on steroids (LOTS of steroids)!
My car had an "OFF" on the Goodwood hill at last years Festival Of Speed (not me driving!) but is now back to full health following a very expensive rebuild.

What is it like to drive on the road ? Interesting you chose a noble also.
What does a gumpert cost 2nd hand ?
There was one for sale at a garage round the corner from me a while ago, so i went round to have a nose. I think it was £350,000 from memory but don't hold me to that. What does a gumpert cost 2nd hand ?

Believe it or not they are very compliant on the road and the suspension in particular is very forgiving.
One issue I have is that I just can't get used to LHD no matter how long I try it for plus with work commitments I never use the car.
Value wise - hard to say as so few come on to the market and none have been IVA'd for UK registration. I did put mine though the test a couple of years ago and have the fail sheets so not actually that hard to get plates on her if I persisted.
Have had mine 5 1/2 years now and covered very few miles in that time (I used to own Gumpert UK and my personal car was used as their demonstrator). £350K is probably a bit top heavy and I would let mine go for nearer £250K!
Any takers?

Roland is an engineer above all else!
Nothing matters other than performance and engineering perfection - no matter what the cost!
Apollo turbos are hybrids from KKK but I am not sure of the spec. The engine in my car is the "sport" spec and runs 710ps and has very little lag. I have driven the 800ps "Race" version and that did take an additional 500 rpm or so to come on boost.
I still own a C5 RS6 (and a C6 RS6 as it happens) which shares the same basic engine architecture with the Apollo and even though the RS6 has very little lag on K04's the Apollo is actually not that far behind. Lack of mass is in the Apollos favour as it is over 600kg lighter than a C5 so it is still quick off boost which masks any lag issue!
To be fair any 4.2L V8 configuration running well designed exhaust manifolds, relatively short air intake runs (from turbo to inlet manifold) and a sequential gearbox shouldn't suffer from excessive lag anyway.

From past experience (a lot!) I would recommend going down the ball bearing cartridge turbo option on the Noble.
For near standard lag and good power I would go GT2860RS or possibly 2871's for a little more top end at the expense of a little more lag.
I have seen 350bhp from forged 1,781cc VAG 20V engines on the 2860 and over 400bhp on the larger 2871 so a pair on a 3.0L V6 would provide plenty of scope.
Horses for courses really but I would personally go for the more responsive 2860's.

Good - the image upload appears to be working again (was down last night).
Shot of her on the trailer as we collected her from the factory:

In the garages at Brands when we used to do corporate days with her:

Another from Brands:

Shot of the C/F boot box:

Being repaired after the Goodwood incident:

Looking a lot better:

She is now back to rude health thanks to the expertise of MotoTechnique who must be the premier Carbon Fibre specialists!
Enjoy chaps!

That could have been a whole lot worse for the passenger, those straps were hardly tight, glad to see she was ok, cold tyres and too much speed!!!!
