I have finally got round to fitting the "race style" (according to the invoice) splitters.

They are a carbonkevlarpoly something or other weave but have been painted black as Noble couldn't get a finish to the required standard in raw weave. They are made using the same process as parts of the McMerc SLR's bodywork. You can just make out the weave beneath the paint.

They are £200 + VAT and will be made to order IIRC, they will be an optional extra on all M400's from now on as well acccording to the factory.

I now have ground clearance whilst not exposing my pooor clam to getting a direct hit

And if I break one I can buy just one

And they are much thinner than the standard item for you aerodynamics geeks out there

Anyway:

Cheers

I know Dan, it's not as if they aren't in the cupboard (and have been for 6 months).

Do you like my stone chip?

You just need a properly legal sized number plate, then you won't see the stone chip

You will

I only put that plate on last week for the walshy day (more air to the rad), until then it had a legal plate and you could still see it.

Looks good. My splitter looks awful, so where can I get them from?? The factory I assume.

Nice, only trouble is with Carbon Kevlar is that it's so strong, if you get a whack it'll be the bodywork that breaks - not the splitter

Yep - Factory, as I said they are made to order, and don't be supprised if no one knows what you are on about as they are a new thing (I've got the very first set made). They are know in house as "boomarang" splitters due to their shape so that may help.

Good point Stig, maybe it is a cunning plan by Noble to sell more front clams

Stig. See we are nice to you lot over here

Nathan. Is there anything in the "middle" bit?

No Just, nothing there, I was think of getting a bit of ally trimmed to size and bolting it in place to protect that bit but the main thing is that the splitters act as a "feeler" so you know if you are being too brave with the slope before you get to the clam.

The extra ground clearance is notable as these are thin and the standard fit one is almost 20mm deep.

Any thoughts on if you would have liked the Armourfend to assist with the stone chip? It looks like your car is Indigo Blue. My M400 is coming in the same color and I think the Armourfend line shows up too much on this color. I am thinking of having it only on the lower end of the clam. Any thoughts now that you have had the car for a while and experienced at least one nice chip?

Thanks,

Rich

In retrospect I think I would've had the front, the rear of the wheel arches (front and rear) and the side air intakes done.

Lucky man getting an M400! Nice choice of colour as well

So are you getting chips on the side air intakes also?

I have yes, not as big as the one on the front though, the wing mirrors take a bit of abuse as well.

Just had a thought though - you'll have side pods on which will change how much the side intakes get chipped and more to the point, how visible the chips are...

The front and the wheel arches are the main points on mine, expecially with sticky tyres, you can hear the stones being thrown into the arches...

Mine's Indigo blue, and I've not bothered with it.

If you look at this

I have circled the stone chips that the armourfend may have saved in yellow, and the ones that it wouldn't have a hope in hell in red.

A close up view of the front is here

That is after 21,000 miles and 2 years.

Me, I'm going for spending the money on a respray just before I want to get rid of it.....

Also, see www.chipmunk.org.uk/lotus/P3050086.JPG around the rear wheel arches for the problem of "edges" appearing around the armourfend - that was just after the car was 2 years old, and it just got worse from there on in. Unfortunatly the darker the colour it seems the worse these "edges" start to show up.

Your choice afterall though!

I think I might have that beat! '04 3R with 4000 miles. Mind you I have very little chipping other than on the lower front, so I'm quite happy to get the lower front sprayed by the factory over the winter. Think I might have the splitter fitted at that point too. They do start to look tatty!

Thanks for the plate Barry!! Has anyone got any further with the Marcos lights?? Also, my drivers seat has a little wear on the red leather. Anyone have any suggestions on how to make it look like new??

I asked my trimmer and he gave me some acrylic paint that they use for touching up - haven't tried it yet but when he demo-ed it for me it dried within a minute! Will let you know how it goes...
